As I write, I've become very fond of the characters in Lucky Puck this past week.

Brody is so young, but he learned some lessons at an early age that make him wise. His status as a certifiable hockey phenom makes him super confident.

Which is the opposite of Bianca. Her experience has given her a bubble of seemingly permanent insecurity when it comes to relationships that sometimes spills over professionally.

But only when it comes to Brody, her professional achilles heel.

Watching them both transform around each other is a real kick!

I hope you get that same feeling of fondness for Brody and Bianca when you read the book, maybe even when you read the excerpt!

At SQ's House

BOOM! 4th of July celebrations on the lake were epic! And epically LOUD! ➜➜➜

The fireworks started Friday at dusk and continued on Saturday night with people all around the lake where I live setting off very impressive professional looking firework displays--over and over and over!! Lol!

Maybe the fireworks were so epic this year because the weather was perfect—bluebell skies, warm with a breeze and no humidity.

My favorite part of the weekend though, was getting together with friends for a cook out and going for a long leisurely boat ride with a stop at the sand bar to take a dip.

Along with the epic fireworks, due to all that fresh air, sunshine and activity, I ended up having an epic night’s sleep! (I'm in my epic period apparently.)

Gotta savor those rare times when everything comes together, and this weekend has been one of those times.💜

Once you lie about a thing like being married and it gets leaked to the public, creating an unexpected tsunami of attention, the biggest problem is figuring how you extract yourself from the lie, i.e., how do you get divorced from a marriage that doesn't exist?

Brody & Bianca realize this too late.

They never thought about the exit plan...

EXCLUSIVE EXCERPT FROM LUCKY PUCK

Brody

“What are you going to tell Coach when we get back?” Sabe takes me from my doom-thoughts, the frying pan where I sit now and throws me metaphorically smack into the fire.

I shrug, resisting the need to deal with coach with all my might—much like a little kid pulling the blankets over his eyes so the monster will go away. 

He says, “I’ve been ignoring the texts he’s sending me and I’m sure he’s sent you a few, but we can’t ignore him at practice tomorrow morning.”

That snaps my focus back to our predicament like the solid thud of hitting the boards in the corner with nowhere else to go. 

 “Shit.” I don’t want to think about it, but we’re coming up against the final buzzer on this game. Do I continue the charade and go for broke with the fake marriage, or do I come clean and cop to the entire fucking mess?

“Simple,” Bianca says as if she’s read my mind and is answering my question. “We stick with the story that we’re married. For the duration of the season and then we get a fake amicable divorce.”

“Amicable divorce?” I raise my brows at her. “I’m not familiar with the idea. Never heard of it.” Hell, my family doesn’t believe in divorces of any kind. Fuck. Panic sets in, but I hide it, pulling her close.

“I’m in for the fake marriage, but we’ll have to get a fake annulment.” I’m half teasing her because, well, old habits die hard.

Sabien laughs, shaking his head.

Bianca waves her hand. “Whatever fake resolution you want is fine with me.”

“Won’t that mean the end of the not so fake business relationship between you?” Sabien asks, being the astute person he is.

“I won’t let that happen.” My jaw tightens and I’m as serious as the devil.

Sabien’s eyes flicker with surprise. “What are you going to do about it? This is real life and you’re no superhero.”

“Don’t be a shithead,” I say, surprising them both.

Bianca says, “I’ve thought about that and I have it figured out.”

I notice the very slight shake in her voice and I’m surprised at the sudden clench in my chest.

But the limo pulls to the curb at the Jet Blue terminal and the door opens prompting us to get out, leaving Bianca’s thoughts trapped in her head.

And leaving me far more curious than I should be about what’s on her mind...
