How Grumpy can the hero get in a grumpy-sunshine romance...

💜💜💜💜💜💜

before you can't stand him?
Hey there romance loving reader besties!

I'm a fan, along with a lot of rust omance readers, of the grumpy-sunshine trope, but at some point there's a line--right?

I'm working on my new hockey romance series starter, THE BIG PUCK, a newly appointed single dad who was an NHL player and down and out until he gets this one golden chance to prove himself as a coach for the new expansion team, the Portsmouth Whalers. The story has a grumpy-sunshine vibe all the way.

The thing is that even though he's a grump, he's also thrust into the role of single dad and he needs to care for his late brother's baby girl. Sooo... of course he can't be grumpy to the baby, or even grumpy about the baby.

What's a writer to do?

My solution is to make him clueless and maybe a little frustrated because he has a huge sense of responsibility to give little Krissy the best possible life, to make up for the short and terrible life his brother had. As he warms up to his role under the tutelage of the hot nanny (who happens to be the sister of his star player and said star player's biggest fan is the owner of the team) it's okay that he becomes a lot less grumpy, even sweet, right?.

Look out for the next EXCLUSIVE EXCERPT next week!💜

This weekend I spent in Connecticut with my mother and enjoyed her company and the quiet cool dreary days ➜➜➜➜

Besides chatting, walking her dog and writing , I cooked up a pork pot pie for dinner.

And we watched 80 for Brady 😜😎

In the meantime, Spence and Lainey (H and h of The Big Puck, my w.i.p.) are getting acquainted and becoming more and more polar opposites with every page I write. Let's just add the Opposites Attract trope front and center on that one for good measure! 💜

He groans, lifts his mouth from mine and grits his teeth. “Jesus, sweetheart, don’t do that unless you mean it. I don’t know how much more restraint I have.”

“We can’t leave you in this state.”

He laughs, a real, eye-crinkling, full-dimpled laugh, the one that gets to me with a pang so strong that my chest tightens and I’m worried my heart will pop from the pressure.

“Don’t worry. I have no intention of remaining… pent up.”

It’s my turn to smile. “What do you have in mind?”

“Seriously?”

I don’t know if it’s mild alarm I see in his eyes, but I renew my squeeze of his cock. “You want a hand job?”

He covers my hand, stopping me from moving it. “That’s not what I had in mind,” he says. Then he reaches for his nightstand drawer and removes a foil packet. He turns back to me and holds it between us so that I can see very clearly what he has in mind.

I gulp. It’s not that I don’t want to go all the way, it’s just that he’s so big and it’s been so long and my experience is so… not good—okay, disastrous—that I don’t know if this is a good idea.

“What is it, sweetheart? You know your expressions are like reading a children’s book on your face, right?”

I swat his arm as a flush of embarrassment heats my face. What do I tell him?

The truth and don’t be such a chicken all of a sudden.

“It’s just that you’re so…” I wave a hand, losing nerve.

“Big?”

I nod and look away.

He cups my chin and forces me to face him.

“I’ll go easy. It’ll be okay. I promise.”

“That’s a big promise.”

He gives me a big smile.

I laugh and let go of him as he hands me the condom. I don’t want to tell him that I’ve never done this before. The last thing I want to do is disappoint him. Besides, how hard could it be? I can handle this.

I rip open the packet and pull out the condom, praying to my statue of the Virgin Mary—and not caring how ironic that may be—that I’m up to this, and that this thin film of latex will hold up.

He turns onto his back and lifts me on top of him so that I’m straddling his hips, sitting squarely on the cushion of his balls.

My pussy screams back to life with a vengeance, prodding me with a jolt of dizzying need to get on with the show.

“Roll it on from the tip, sweetheart,” he says, his cock tall and solid, jumps when I look at it and lick my lips.

Holy mother. When I figure I should be bone dry empty, my pussy leaks more lust honey and I make my move.

With shaky hands and his intense sex-starved eyes watching, I roll the condom down his shaft. I don’t mean to be painstakingly slow, but I guess I must be because he covers my hands and helps me with the few couple inches. It was a long freaking way to go. I don’t know if I should gulp with trepidation or wipe the drool from my mouth at the prospect of him inside me.

“I’m ready,” I say and do a mental sign of the cross, a flash of my family’s bathtub-enshrined statue coming to mind...

What happens when a one-night-stand turns into a whole complicated mess including secret identities and a list of rules meant to be broken...

The only thing Rylee and Zak have in common is one hot night and a penchant to avoid complicated relationships.

But keeping their distance forces a charade and secrets pile up.

As the ticking clock counts down to the self-imposed expiration of their fling, they find themselves embroiled in a hot mess so deep that it gets harder and harder to keep pretending there's no relationship to see here.

The facts are:

  • She’s intense. He’s easy going.
  • She’s biting and edgy. He’s a joker.
  • She wants to make a boatload of money. He loves hockey so much he would play for free.
  • She loves men. He loves women.

He falls first and harder...

The Groupie, a Boston Brawlers Hockey Spin-off, is the second book in the Some Girls Like It Cold Series. It can be read as a stand-alone. This story about a one-night-stand gone wrong, has plenty of edge with a dash of humor where the hunky guy falls first and gets the reluctant dream girl against massive odds for a deeply satisfying HEA Ending! (duh!)

The Groupie - a hockey rom-com

image"This was my first Stephanie Queen book. I will be reading more. The steam was off the charts but the story was still front and center. Two competitive athletes, use to doing it “their” way and “on their own”. No relationships. That didn’t work out so well. Really enjoyed this book."

THE BIG PUCK

WORD COUNT TO DATE: 10,286

WORD COUNT PROJECTED: 80,000

PERCENTAGE COMPLETE: 13%

This one's all about Spencer & Lainey.

If you love a damaged hero who still has a sense of humor, albeit a dry one, who is saved by the sunshiny Lainey Hall, a die-hard romantic in spite of her last minute break-up with her fiancee.

She also has a boat-load of sass to go with her nurturing nature and ever-present smile. She may be sunny, but she's no one's pushover.

Spencer Logan, on the other hand, may be broody and wearing a permanent scowl with a pessimistic outlook, but that doesn't stop his determination to give the job hell and go down swinging if he's going down.

He has a very soft center, like a deliciously hard chocolate candy coating over lusciously gooey caramel, he's gruff, but not mean and so mushy soft when it comes to his new baby girl Krissy--even if he doesn't show it on his face.

I can't wait for you to meet them and get to know them as they inevitably fall for each other in THE BIG PUCK!
