New Series Reveal: Hockey Boys - the Jennings Brothers
Dear ,
First, I want to wish all of you in the U.S. a happy Memorial Day, as we remember and honor those who served and protected our country, like my father did. 💜
Want to know something behind the scenes in a writer's life?
One problem with being a creative writer is that we're always thinking, always coming up with new things to write. Sometimes these ideas take off and runaway with our imaginations, even before we've finished what we're currently writing.
At least that's how it is in my case, in fact right now! I think it's because as I get closer to finishing a book, I panic and wonder what I'm going to write next.
Even if I sometimes feel like I need a break, it's still hard to be without a writing project to occupy my creative juices on some level.
Not having my next book lined up is like an assembly line and when the chocolates stop coming and you're looking for those pieces toeatput in a box.
(Okay, I know this is an old-fashioned reference to the classic I Love Lucy chocolate factory episode, and that there are no more of those assembly lines because machines do it all these days, but we all get the picture, right?)
Long story short--I know, I know, it's too late to make this story short--I don't want to have an empty assembly line as I finish Lucky Puck, so I came up with another batch of chocolates in the form of a new series that my my SQ team friends and I are very excited about.
(I ran the concept by my team, an esteemed group of expert romance rans, i.e. my Facebook group, and their response can best be described as an enthusiastic hell heck yes!)
Now I can breathe easier and settle into bringing Lucky Puck to an emotionally toe-curling big-sigh ending without worrying about what's next!

At SQ's House
The hole in the back yard is still there, but less muddy and now leveled to 
It all looks so heavy. Not that I'll be doing any of the lifting...
Speaking of muscles--or lack thereof--you may be wondering how my gym membership is going. Not bad. I think it's the sauna that motivates me. I'm still going at least twice a week for three weeks in a row now.
Have I lost weight? No, but I have sore muscles so maybe they're getting firmer and stronger. (I honestly can't tell under all the fat and flab.)
Either way, I'm still not in shape to lift a slab of cement patio paver.
I'll show you picture of the finished project--I mean the patio, not me--whenever that is. Still not sure... 💜

NEW SERIES REVEAL!
Hockey Boys - the Jennings Brothers
The Details:
Genre: small town hockey romance
Concept:
The Jennings family lives in Rye, NH, as they have for several generations, occupying a large house near the ocean that's expanded into a compound. They come from a long line of fishermen and run a boat called Jennings Brothers. The family is prominent in town and in the fishing business.
But these days, the family's fishing business is slowing down with the changing industry and catch quotas.
The Jennings brothers, aren't banking on fishing to make their living. Talented athletes, all five of them play hockey. Their father coaches the high school team in the winters when fishing shuts down and every one of the brothers would love to break out into the pros to make a bundle of money and save their family's fishing business from sinking into ruin.
Complicating factors (aka Juicy Drama!):
- There's a rival fishing boat in town run by the Longo family with four brothers who also play hockey but they go to private schools and play for rival teams.
- The rival family includes twin sisters who could melt a man's soul.
- The mothers from the two families are secret friends
- The rivalry is fueled by a secret from the past, an incident that's rumored was the cause of Uncle Jack's death.

Patrick: The Jennings Brothers
They call me Trick. I'm a middle son in a family of six extremely ambitious, extremely competitive hockey playing brothers. My trick? Escaping notice.
Playing goalie makes it easy. I wear a mask.
Also, I like to play tricks on my brothers.
Lately I've been purposely escaping the notice of my family. It may have something to do with my long-time crush on our rival family's daughter, one of their treasured twins.
The family rivalry shouldn't have mattered in this day and age. We're not like the Hatfields and McCoys. We're not trying to kill each other.
But the struggling fishing industry in town sharpens the rivalry, putting everyone on edge. The families are circling their wagons and that makes it all the more important to mind who I associate with.
Not to mention the fact that I've been threatened by each of her four brothers who strongly dislike me for other reasons, possibly related to our hockey rivalry and some on-ice altercations, to stay away from her.
Did I say there was no threat of violence involved?
Guess I was mistaken.
So I leave her and her soul-melting beauty and sweetness alone.
My crush should have fizzled out while I went away to college, but UNH is close by and whenever I'd come home, there she was. We see each other around town, dancing around our attraction, flirting when no one's looking, watching each other from afar.
But I don't make a move. There are plenty of other young women on campus and in town. Why make things complicated?
That's what I think until I get drafted by Manitoba which may as well be on the other side of the moon.
That changes everything.
It's time to show my face, to make a move, to risk the complications of our families disapproval to explore whatever there is between us--before I disappear.
I don't have the book covers yet, but I anticipate a combo of small town and hockey vibes pictured here.
