How important is the first line?

Important enough for me to ask you to rate mine!

💜💜💜💜💜💜

Hello !

I'm very interested to know if you think the opening lines of a book are as important a I think they are.

You may not realize this, but writers--including me--often take more time and trouble, with countless iterations, on the first few lines of their novels than any other part.

I can't speak for Charles Dickens of It was the best of times. It was the worst of times fame, but no matter how many books I've written and no matter how long those bookss are--sometimes over 100,000 words--I re-write those first few lines more than any others, sometimes a dozen times, spending hours of thought and trepidation over them,

All the effort is to please you, the precious reader. 💜

So now I'm asking you to help me with the latest (likely not final) opening lines of my work-in-progress, The Cheerleader.

imageGetting together with friends to golf--virtual golf that is.

Big Secret: I don't golf! ➜➜➜➜➜

My 3 friends do and I borrowed their clubs, got instruction and didn't come close to keeping up.

It was so bad that my longest hit went 35 feet--not yards. Less than 3 yards! Lol!

To give you perspective, some men hit the ball 3 Hundred yards!

My friends were patient--and hit the ball for me when I asked because if they didn't, we'd still be there trying to finish the game!

Meanwhile,

Today I'm cooking gravy--as my Italian grandma would say--otherwise known as marinara sauce.

It's a long and mouthwatering scented process. The pot's been simmering for 4+ hours and my husband finally turned off the stove.

What are you cooking up this Sunday afternoon?

About the HIP: 8 weeks since my hip surgery and I can drive and sit for a while... if I ice afterwards. Progress!! I also went for a 1 mile walk!! Yay! 💜

Spicy Sports Romance

Playing for Keeps

image"I loved this sexy and heartwarming enemies to lovers sports romance with unforgettable characters and a well-crafted story that kept me totally involved in all that was happening and on an emotional roller coaster from beginning to end. I loved Boston Militia linebacker Tate Fontana and enjoyed his dynamic with his teammates, family and especially his undeniable chemistry with sports reporter Chloe Smith. Ms. Queen blew me away with this steamy and emotional read and gave me an afternoon of reading pleasure. "Playing for Keeps" is the perfect escape from everyday stress and I look forward to more from this gifted author.

“No man has measured up—so far.” She pauses, leans in again and touches my hand, just a brush of her fingers against mine. Enough to spark the air like a random lightning bolt.

My fault for initiating contact, for giving her license to do the same. I keep my hand still, shift the sudden tension in every muscle to concentrating on not grabbing her hand and pulling her across the table so I can test those plump red lips, see if they’re as kissable as they look. Knowing that’s what she’s tempting me, daring me to do.

“Maybe you’re the one, big boy.” She whispers the words, raising the hairs on my neck, raising my dick and spiking my pulse rate.

“You can dream,” I say, my eyes refusing to look away from that juicy mouth, except to drown in her deep-purple eyes.

It’s a test and I have no idea why I’m bothering, why I say anything. Except maybe it’s the alcohol and her impossible-to-avoid eyes sucking me in.

Fuck. I should know better. Even if she weren’t a reporter, she’s so fucking not my type. Too bold, too ambitious, too over-the-top.

Too bad my dick didn’t get that memo.

But I can control my dick, even in its current drunken, indiscriminating state...

"I shouldn’t be sweating while there’s a snow storm blowing outside. Gazing out the window, I watch the flakes fall, wait for the calming effect.
But the beads of sweat still trickle as if I’m in a sauna instead of our cold, never-used living room."

Bear Naked with the Bearded Baller - Amy Award

image

When plus-size model, April De la Reine, loses her agency and all her hopes for making a difference in the fashion world, she needs some peace and solitude to rethink her life. A cabin in the mountains of Colorado sounds like the perfect escape.

But her trip to the snowy wilderness of Bear Claw Valley gives her a dilapidated shack, a blizzard, a hilariously oversized dog as big as a bear, and the grumpy, bearded, and irresistibly infamous footballer, Bridger Kingman.

Stranded together in a snowed-in cabin, they soon discover that opposites do more than just attract and they find warmth in the best of places - each other's arms.

'Bear Naked with the Bearded Baller' is the steamy love-at-first-sight prequel to the Cocky Kingmans' series that will melt your heart, and your panties, no matter how cold the winter night.
