imageI've been away all week at St. Pete Beach for the Novelists Inc. (NINC) Conference with my bestie, hockey writer friend, Zoe Beth Geller. āžœāžœāžœāžœāžœāžœ

We've *known* each other on-line for two years and this was the first time we met in person--Let the hijinks begin!

We danced up a storm at Karaoke night--no imagesinging here--and bonded with all the other writer-dancers in the crowd. It's surprising what dancing-maniacs we are considering our sedentary day jobs!

The best song of the night was Thriller performed by an author--let's call him Mr. X because no one seems to know his name.

Hmm...I think he may have been a ringer--or one of the audiobook narrators. Whoever he was (on the left), the mystery guy was fantastic! (I know, I wish I could share the audio!)

In the meantime, you guessed it--the diet went off the rails and I refuse to weigh myself for another week. Trying to keep things positive-- right? šŸ˜˜šŸ’œ

FINAL EXCLUSIVE EXCERPT

The Do-Over Girl - a hockey rom-com

imageKali

It sounded like a womanā€™s voice on the phone.

This thought pops into my head far too often all day long as I put the finishing touches on my manuscript, putting aside all the emails and phone calls I need to get to for the APA mission.

Iā€™m too close to the end, to finally being finished with my book, one Iā€™m proud of, to stop working on it, to put the mission first.

Thatā€™s how I justify taking the time off. I push my hair from my face as I lean over my desk, scrolling slowly past the last few pages for the millionth time.

Plus, thereā€™s something therapeutic about working on my story that I donā€™t get from working on businessā€”especially when that business constantly reminds me of him.

Where the hell is he, and why did he go?

Who was that woman on the phone?

And the biggest question of all is, why am I letting it bother me so much when Iā€™ve come to terms with the fact that Nash and I are a temporary thing?

We are temporary. Arenā€™t we?

***

Long after dinner, Nash walks into the parlor where Iā€™m sitting on the couch with Steve, showing him my final manuscript and sipping the glass of champagne he insisted we have to celebrate. Itā€™s finished, and I had to share the accomplishment with someone.

ā€œKali. Steve.ā€ He stands there, watching us. He doesnā€™t say where heā€™s been, and Iā€™m still not sure whether I have a right to ask.

No, thatā€™s not true. Iā€™m absolutely certain I have no rights where it concerns Nash. None.

I want to tell him about my book, but his stare isnā€™t right. Somethingā€™s not right. I stand, pick up my laptop, and leave the half-empty flute of champagne.

ā€œThank you for all your help, Steve. And for celebrating with me.ā€

ā€œCongratulations on finishing your book, Kali. You have a good one there.ā€

ā€œYou finished your book?ā€ Nash moves in, getting close as I head for the stairs. He doesnā€™t let me pass by him. His stare stops me, and I face him. I smile because Iā€™m proud and happy about finishing the book.

I nod.

Reaching his bad arm, sling and all around me, he swoops in and kisses me so fast it knocks the breath from me, making me dizzy, making a mockery of my mini celebration with Steve.

His other hand cups the back of my head, and he takes advantage, deepening the kiss. But itā€™s not a savage kiss as much as a deep joining, a statement kiss like, Holy fuck, congratulations, Kali, only with his tongue in my mouth and his hot breath infusing me with his excitement, all levels, from passion and lust to pride and pure joy.

The sound of Steveā€™s whistle should stop us, not that heā€™s sending a warning, because itā€™s more like heā€™s saying, Wowza.

But maybe it should have been a warning because the next sound does stop us, and itā€™s not a whistle. Itā€™s the sound of a plate crashing to the floor.

ā€œShit.ā€ We both say it, shocking from me but mild from Nash.

He lets me go, and I jump back from him, turning too late to make excuses or explain the kiss away.

Charlineā€”feeling more like Mrs. Pike right nowā€”stands there, no longer holding her plate of cookies.

ā€œNashā€”Kali! Iā€™m shocked at your behavior,ā€ she says.

I say, ā€œNash wasā€¦congratulating me on finishing my book.ā€ As if that justifies what I know is a clear infraction of the hanky-panky rule. And even when I shouldnā€™t feel like a guilty kid because sheā€™s not my mother and weā€™re not kids, I somehow do feel guilty because Iā€™ve disrespected her.

Shit.

Steve hurries to pick up the pieces of the plate, shaking his head as he also retrieves the cookies, now uneatable because theyā€™ve been contaminated with possible shards of glass.

ā€œIā€™m sorry, Mrs. Pike,ā€ Nash says. ā€œI didnā€™t mean to shock you.ā€

ā€œHeaven knows, I shouldnā€™t be shocked,ā€ she says. ā€œYouā€™ve been tip-toeing around the no hanky-panky rule for quite some time now, havenā€™t you?ā€

šŸ”„šŸ”„Today's Sizzling Snippet šŸ”„šŸ”„

from Playing for The Money

"We could be roommates," I suggested.

"No." Hunter's answer was immediate.

"But--"

ā€œNo buts.ā€ His loud angry words shut me up. I had no idea what I would have said anyway. Suggesting that we could have a fling in secret sounded so... sleazy right now, as if we were guilty of something. The only thing we were guilty of is a case of mutual desire, combustible chemistry or sensual connection--whatever else you wanted to call it. We had the hots for each other and what was wrong with that?

He could lose his career if he were found out--thatā€™s what was wrong. Because there was no way in hell my father would stand for me with Hunter Quintanna. Dad made certain I knew how he felt before I took on the responsibility as Hunter's handler.

If I had a fling with Hunter, Iā€™d probably lose my job too, lose my place on my dadā€™s team forever. Lose his respect. That wasnā€™t something I could treat lightly.

ā€œForget I ever suggested it. Maybe I thought we could deal with our attraction like mature adults with self-control.ā€ I thought no such thing, had no intentions of controlling myself, but I needed to salvage my poise. Pride was out the window, long gone.

He gave me a look that said he saw through me. Then he took a step forward and I tensed as if heā€™d touched me, as if he were a live wire.

When he put his hand on my face again, caressing my cheek, I knew what it felt like to be branded. My heart nearly stopped and then picked up, beating again like someone was tap dancing on my soul.

Leaning in, he whispered, ā€œYou think you have enough self-control to resist, Cat?ā€ He moved his face close, his mouth near my ear, his breath fanning my skin. I didnā€™t move, staring into his hooded eyes, everything in me throbbing, willing him to kiss me, waiting, without a thought of stopping him or backing away, no matter how foolhardy it would be to let him kiss me.

Once his mouth touched mine, lightly, the explosion of need began in earnest as if heā€™d turned on a switch to the furnace in me that I never knew was there. The sheer heat and volatility of everything in me, the hard beating of my heart, the bouncing of nerves in my gut, the goose bumps on my skin, all conspired to make me powerless to do anything but kiss him back with everything I had, every ounce of passion.

I leaned into him, pressed against his lean length, reached my arms up around his back, reveling in the feel of his knotted muscles under my palms.

The sound of his ragged breathing as the kiss deepened, his tongue invading, plunging, sent a throbbing rush to my pussy. I ground my hips against him, right up against his long solid cock.

The shock of it, of him so ready to take me after only this kiss, caught my breath. I made a squeak and pulled back. He let me go, taking his hands off me and stepping back, turning away.

ā€œThatā€™s why we canā€™t be roommates, Cat.ā€ He stepped into the hall and closed the door behind him...

Coming later in 2023...

ā€œWith a name like Chase, I should have known youā€™d catch up with me,ā€ she says.

Sporting a wry smile, she pretends to be all casually cynical. I would have believed her act if it hadnā€™t been for that one night. There was nothing casual about it, or her.

That night was certifiably special, everything about it, from start to finish.

Only problem is Iā€™m dying to re-live the night... And sheā€™s not.

Chase Whittier, just up from the minors to join the NHL's new Portsmouth Whalers, is riding high and out to celebrate in Boston after their win against the Brawlers.

In a departure from his usual behavior, he takes a woman home for a one night stand.

Except this woman and this night are not what he expects from a one-night-stand. He connects with her on a level heā€™s never experienced before. This canā€™t be normal.

But when she disappears before the morning, he's more than disappointed because he didn't get her number--or her last name. And though he doesnā€™t expect to ever see her again, she stays on his mind.

Until two weeks later when he goes to his grandmaā€™s in Boston for Christmas and finds her there.

She's his grandma's caretaker. And not happy to see him. At all.

a fake relationship billionaire accidental pregnancy hockey rom-com

Sabien

What does a billionaire hockey player and a clueless dog walker have in common?

Besides my dog, we both enjoyed spending one hot night burning up the sheets.

And we both needed something desperately enough to strike a deal.

Possibly the stupidest deal ever imagined according to my lawyer, but once it's done, we're in bed together--literally--for the duration of the season.

The one rule is that we agree to part ways cleanly at the end of the contract. No contact allowed.

No matter what...

Tricky Puck - a fake fiancee hockey rom-com

imageI'd never heard of a real life matchmaker before, but grandma insists on introducing me to one and makes sure it's really real when she tells me I'm her matchmaker's new client...

Normally, I'd do anything for grandma, but this is a big ask.

I'm not ready to settle down. Not even close. I'm only twenty-five and a rising star in the NHL - otherwise known as a chick-magnet.

After all the hard work and focus I've put in to get to this point, I've barely begun to have fun. No way am I going along with the matchmaking plan.

That attitude changes fast when grandma informs me her clock is ticking and her time's almost up.

And her dying wish is to see me settled down with a nice young woman.

Shit.

She goes on about babies, but my mind is spinning with the knowledge that I have no choice. I need to go along with this matchmaking deal for grandma.

Unless I can come up with a way to give her the comfort she wants, the illusion that I'm settled down--without actually settling down...
