Again, Again!

Folks,
I wrote the blog Fitter Faster Stronger a few days before the Wales v England game, not because I was forecasting a whitewasher or making a point about the physical condition of the Welsh players, but because it’s easy to get caught up in the detail and miss the point.
The point of McDonald's is not to provide amazing burgers or French fries that will change how you eat chips forever; it’s to make money from real estate. Once, you see the game that’s being played, you get to understand the decisions that are made. Daniel Levy has turned Tottenham into the most successful business in the Premier League - yes the fans are moaning about success on the pitch, but it’s off the pitch that matters most to the man making all the important decisions.
When you look at a map from the point of view of Asia, America appears on the left, not the right, of the image. It’s not wrong, but compared to what we are used to, it’s different.
The whole point of the work I am doing with coaches is to change how we interact with each other. We are so used to thinking that coaching is about telling people what to do, that when we look at working alongside those we coach, in a horizontal relationship, not a vertical one, it can feel wrong. It’s not wrong, but it is different.
Let’s wrap up by talking about “biting the hand that feeds you” - if you can look beyond the action, to see the system at play, then you can use it to create change. If, we are to believe Stephen Fry, Michael Sheen is the greatest living Welshman. I’m not so sure, that might be reserved for the person who sorts out the WRU.
Have a great week,
Simon
P.S. If you know of a coach who would welcome the opportunity to be in the conversation about shaping the future of coach development, please do let them know how they can contribute:
