Hi All, Welcome to Week #2 of Ready Responder Friday!
Each week I plan to serve up a self-curated list of the best the internet has to offer.
We’ll not only cover training, nutrition, recovery and the regular gym bro topics. BUT, we’re also going to get into Mindset, Psychology, and how you can practically apply wisdom from other fields such as business to optimize your results in and out of the gym.
If you’re interested in boosting your energy. Creating lasting habits. And the occasional corny joke. Then you won’t want to miss this in your inbox.
On Mindset
I recently Listened to a podcast featuring Jim Kwik. For those who don’t know Jim Kwik is a brain coach who focuses on accelerated learning and brain optimization. My favorite takeaway from listening to him was that “All behavior is dictated by beliefs.” For example, if you say you are bad at remembering peoples names. Guess what, you are.
Takeaway… Get your mind right and the body will follow!

On Training
I have to be honest. Since the pandemic closed down my Crossfit gym. I don’t do as much cardio as I probably should. It is very hard for me to CHOOSE to run a 5k. Or to row a 10k.
Normally, I hit a Tabata interval on the fan bike, and then lie to myself that I am checking the cardio box. Well, this month I am focusing on Zone 2 training a bit more.
What’s Zone 2 you ask? The brief run down is this,
Spend more time at a moderate hear rate, where you can continue to talk at a casual pace without panting for breath. (Running /Rowing/ Bike/ Etc.) This lower intensity heart rate for extended durations has proven to have all sorts of benefits. I like the talk-test because it is low-tech, but they also discuss specific heart rate ranges in a “Maffetone Session”
which is basically 180 - (your age) = target heart rate.
If you want to deep dive, check out this great “CrossFitters Guide to Zone 2 Training” from Misfit Athletics for more. Found HERE
Ready Responder Fitness
I recently posted a YouTube video debating the pros and cons of renewing my CrossFit L2 certificate. I would be interested in hearing any feedback so don’t hesitate to comment or email me back.

That's it for this week. I'll see you next week for Ready Responder Friday.
Stay Safe. Stay Ready.
