PICTURE: πŸ“Έ

I took a picture of a migrant caravan moving north through Oaxaca.

The nearly a mile-long parade of migrants consisted of men women and children, most Central Americans fleeing a series of complex crises and looking for a dignified new start. It was shocking to learn, that by law, they must WALK through Mexico to meet asylum requirements. Don't be fooled, migrant apprehensions have dropped in 2024 (fewer humans are crossing illegally) and those in the US follow the law, never risking erroneously appearing on a government list, like voter registration. -_-

OPTIMISM: πŸ’–

A quote about spreading light:

"A candle loses nothing by lighting another candle."

COOL FIND: πŸ•΅πŸ½β€β™‚οΈ

imageDid you know Americans living outside of the United States can vote from abroad? Are you (like me) a U.S. citizen living abroad? Don't let distance keep you from exercising your right to vote. Vote From Abroad is a nonpartisan organization dedicated to helping overseas Americans understand and participate in the electoral process. They provide timely information, resources, and support to ensure that your vote counts. You can still visit their website for more details and to register to vote. Special thanks to Anne Porter, POCHO Stuff community member and Rosarito resident, for flagging this org and sharing it with me and you.

HOMEWORK: πŸ“

Cultural Family Tree: There's no better time than now! Work together on a family tree project that includes both Mexican and American branches (or wherever your family is from, ). Share stories about ancestors and their contributions to your bicultural identity. πŸŒ³πŸ‘¨β€πŸ‘©β€πŸ‘§β€πŸ‘¦

OTHER STUFF: πŸ“’

Big thanks for the love and shares on LinkedIn and Facebook, two platforms I'm not very active on, but found myself happily engaged with other pochos and supporters of HHM. Hispanic Heritage Month is a celebration of our history, our contributions, and our strength. It’s about honoring our presence and continuing to lift each other up. You can still check out the BTW-post featuring some of my influential friends, on the POCHO Socialite blog.

You already know I really really enjoy saying GRACIAS for opening and reading my emails. I feel hashtag blessed to have your attention at the end of each week! I hope you enjoyed today's POCHO Stuff Email. Let me know your thoughts on HHM. See ya next week, have an amazing week.
