A new mural in Coyoacán

I took a picture of a mural in the making. I passed it several times this week before finally stopping to say hi to the artist and admiring the work. Too many funny coincidences happened during and after the convo, turns out I was unknowingly admiring another piece in Escandón that he collaborated on just that morning! Wild. See more from Canadian artist André Kan on his insta.

OPTIMISM: đź’–

A quote from a Coyoacan legend, (again lol):

"I am my own muse. I am the subject I know best. The subject I want to know better."

🎥 This reel breaks down the wild genius of Salvador Dalí—not just as an artist, but as a master of storytelling. He knew it wasn’t just about talent or technique, but about tapping into another place—and selling the story. A quick reminder that creativity isn’t just what you make, it’s how you share it.

BTW: Practicing Creativity, Even If You Don’t Call Yourself an Artist

This week’s Bonus Tip is all about tapping into your creativity—even if you don’t consider yourself an “artist.” I reached out to Latino creatives and artists I admire and asked:

“How can people practice creativity?”

Here’s what they had to say:

🎨 Start with Curiosity & Small Steps

Southbay OG, Regan Russell, good friend and full-time multidisciplinary art maker, believes that art is an act of bravery:

"Making art is one of the best ways to face your fears—it’s never worse than the first time, and that’s all the confidence you need to keep going."

Start small. Sketch something from life for just 10 minutes a day. Creativity lives in the practice, and the questions that come up along the way.

🖼️ Engage with Local Art

SD/TJ border girl Itzel Islas, a Latina graphic designer, encourages people to step outside and into creative spaces:

"Visit a local museum, go to an art pop-up, or join a workshop—there are so many ways to be inspired through community experiences."

Creativity doesn’t always start with making—sometimes it starts with seeing.

🎭 Express Yourself Through the Everyday

The talented Paul Jimenez,  muralist and co-founder of Groundfloor Murals, believes creativity isn’t limited to galleries or murals:

"Creativity doesn’t have to be a big performance—it can be how you cook, dress, or decorate your space. Once you see the world as your canvas, everything you do carries more intention."

Art can live in your daily life if you let it. Follow what excites or calms you.

📱 Share Without Fear

Sac-town-based Junnior Navarro, a Mexican visual artist, speaks candidly about the internal barriers to creativity:

"Nunca tengas miedo de lo que haces o de expresarte. Todo arte y técnica es válido."

The fear of being judged can keep us stuck—but creativity grows when we share. Use whatever tools and platforms you have to show your work. Let people see you. As Junnior says: “El que no arriesga, no gana.”

đź’ˇ The Big Idea?

Creativity isn’t reserved for “artists”—it’s a muscle we all have. Start small, follow your joy, and don’t be afraid to share what you create. Read their full responses and see more on PochoSocialite.com
