👋🏽 Hey !

New year, same traditions (and yes, I got the monito 😅). This week’s Pocho Stuff is a little nostalgia, a little affirmation, and a reminder that culture—like destiny—has a funny way of finding us right when we need it. All in this week's...

Me salió el Niño en la rosca. Of course. Guess I’m on tamales duty now... fate, tradición, y un poquito de main character energy. ✨

OPTIMISM: 💖

“Eres capaz.” (“You are capable.”)

– common Spanish affirmation

A short, everyday affirmation: useful for morning check-in, mirror talk, or whenever you need a reminder.

COOL FIND: 🕵🏽‍♂️

The IG algorithms were doing their algo-thing and decided to serve me up an Instagram reel on PACHUCA WOMEN. LA-native content creator Eric Garcia explains nicely why Pachuca women were more than a style—they were a statement. Bold brows, dark lipstick, and unapologetic rebellion. They didn’t just defy the rules—they rewrote them. Check out the reel on IG image

HOMEWORK: 📝

Abuela’s Recipe Remix

Grab one dish you grew up with and make it your own—swap a spice, go vegan, or plate it fancy. Then share it with someone who’s never tasted it. La cocina es cultura.

OTHER STUFF: 📢

I'm kicking off the year with a Friday flashback to everyone's favorite "other stuff" segment: a BTW! I'm excited to engage more of you this year and hopefully bring more collective knowledge to the pocho community that you all make so special.

🌟 Fitness 🌟

As we step into the new year, it’s the perfect time to focus on your health and wellness! For this week’s “BTW,” I asked Latino fitness pros to share their top tips for making small but impactful changes to kickstart your fitness journey. Here’s what they had to say:

🕒 Start Small and Stay Consistent

My bud Marc Barron, owner of The Spin Factory and F1T Factory, keeps it simple: “Don’t get caught up in a crazy new goal. Just make it a point to move three times a week for 30 minutes. After that, you can add more time or another day. You got this!”

🚶‍♂️ Walk, Nourish, and Rest

Online coach Thomas Padilla of Thrive Coaching Academy in Austin TX, focuses on sustainable habits:

  • “Make a habit out of walking 7,000 to 10,000 steps per day.
  • Nourish your body instead of restricting it—food is the key to health and your dream body.
  • Prioritize 7 to 9 hours of sleep to boost your motivation, energy, and appetite control.”

💪 Find Your Reason and Just Move

My dear cousin and elite athlete trainer at Limitless Fitness (aka the Play- ground) Ivan Orozco inspires us with a holistic view of fitness: “Fitness is more than physical appearance. It’s your strength, your outlet, and the best medicine on the planet. Find a reason for your fitness, set a goal, and make it part of your life—like brushing your teeth or breathing. Just move: jump, crawl, roll, squat, dance, bike, climb, push, pull. Every time you move, you extend your life a little longer.”

Thanks for kicking off the year with me. I’m excited to lean into more flashbacks, more shared wisdom, and more community moments in 2026. As always, this space is better because you’re in it—síganle echando ganas. 💛✨
