🌟 A Magical Afternoon at Chapultepec Castle 🌟
A fellow balet folklorico dancer told me about this free show:
I took a picture last weekend when I had the chance to catch the Ballet FolklĂłrico de MĂ©xico de Amalia Hernández performing Navidades en MĂ©xico at the stunning Castillo de Chapultepec. The show was a vibrant celebration of Mexican holiday traditions, complete with posadas, Reyes Magos, and dazzling folklorico dances. Watching this incredible performance against the backdrop of the castle was pure magic. If you ever get the chance, don’t miss this unforgettable holiday tradition! đźŽđź‡˛đź‡˝âś¨

A quote and mantra or a fun Friday and long winter weekend.
“La risa es el sol que ahuyenta el invierno del rostro humano.”
(Laughter is the sun that drives winter away from the human face.)

Helen Hyde’s Global Art Journey
Ever heard of an American artist who mastered Japanese woodblock printing and then traveled to Mexico? Helen Hyde (1868–1919) did exactly that, blending global inspirations into her vibrant prints. Check out @jpnstudio2023 for more stunning Japanese art—and a dose of cross-cultural magic!

HOMEWORK: 📝
Global Art in Nature: Take a nature walk and collect natural materials like leaves, flowers, and stones. If you're in southern California, use google to see where the plants migrated from or to. Use the items you collect to create outdoor art installations inspired by both Mexican and American cultural motifs.

Port of Entry Bonus Episode: Future at the Border
With a second Trump term looming, our cross-border familia might see big shake-ups—think mass deportations and new tariffs on Mexican imports. In this special bonus episode of Port of Entry, KPBS Investigative Border Reporter Gustavo Solis breaks down what these proposals could mean for everyone who crosses and does business at the border. Listen in English or Spanish, and stay ready for whatever’s next!
Thank you for reading, stay safe out there, and see you next week.
