New art alert! I snapped a picture of my Astro Cuahutemoc to tell the artist that arrived safely, but also to show it to you, .
Victor Lebowski, better known as the artist Tijuanauta, depicts the borderlands' beauty in his art. His detailed ink drawings often combine U.S.-Mexico icons, like Star Wars and taco carts, or astronauts eating elotes. Visit his Instagram account and follow @Tijuanauta to see more of his work.
OPTIMISM: π
A quote for you today:
"Optimism is a happiness magnet. If you stay positive, good things and good people will be drawn to you." β Mary Lou Retton
COOL FIND: π΅π½ββοΈ
This is a bit of a #FlashbackFriday find. During the pandemic, I got deep into KPBS's revamped podcast Port of Entry, which showcases cross-border stories that connect us.
While the newer seasons exist in both English and Spanish, my favorite episodes are from the earlier English-only seasons. Tales of love on the border,
deportation, politics, and plenty of art talk. This season features LGBTQ+ Stories of the region, while previous seasons focused on Migrants and Food in the Borderlands, and my favorite series about Border artists turning pain into power. Get to know Tijuanauta (the artist mentioned above), in the episode: A battle with body and brain.
HOMEWORK: π
Multicultural Movie Night: Host a movie night with your familia (or amigos) featuring a film that highlights both Mexican and American cultures. Encourage discussions afterward about what you each took away from the flick. π₯πΏ

This week's homework was inspired by Wednesday's reveal of the official poster for the upcoming 31st Annual San Diego Latino Film Festival, check it out the winning entry:
OTHER STUFF: π’
Did you know that there are more than 220 diverse businesses on Chula Vista's Third Avenue? This week I got a little home-sick watching a local news clip that showcased the area where I lived in my early 20's, like an o.g. hipster: before it was cool. Watch the CBS 8 segment, and let me know which spots you're excited to visit this year -- I highly recommend the delicious food and tasty cocktails at La Nacional.
THANK YOU for following me and the POCHO Socialite blog, I hope that you enjoyed this edition of the POCHO Stuff email.
Sending you mucho amor,
