Hello ,
Let’s talk about being grateful.
I know it’s a very general topic that everyone talks about, but today, I want us to go a little deeper.
I want to talk about celebrating our hidden scars and the quiet moments of survival we rarely acknowledge.
We often overlook the small things we’ve overcome, brushing them off as not a big deal. But sometimes, the little victories are the most defining moments of our lives.
This past week, I recalled a significant experience I had when I was 11 and I wish to share this with you.
I have a large scar on my right thigh… one I got after a serious accident in boarding school.
No need for long details, but let’s just say it was severe enough that I had to return home to recover. I couldn’t walk properly for a month. My leg was stitched, and even now, decades later, I still feel the pain from that scar.
It’s funny how rarely I think about it until this week. While speaking with my daughter, that memory came flooding back. I picked up the phone and called my sister, who was there when it happened, and we laughed and reflected.
And then it hit me how easily I had forgotten what a miracle that moment was. Some people go through accidents like that and lose a limb. Yet here I am, years later, standing, walking, and living without giving it a second thought.
How many of us do the same?
We survive heartbreaks, losses, disappointments, rejections, or illnesses… and we keep moving, never pausing to recognize God’s hand in it all.
We often thank God for the big blessings — the promotions, the wins, the milestones — but overlook the quiet deliverances, the almosts that didn’t happen, the unseen battles we made it through.
If only God opened our eyes to see how much He has saved us from, the prayers He’s answered and the ones He mercifully didn’t, we would never stop being thankful.
So this week, I’m reminding myself (and you) that while wishing for a perfect life, let’s not forget to be grateful for the one you’ve already survived.
Be thankful for the visible blessings and the invisible rescues.
Be grateful for everything even the things you don’t know.
Have a fantastic week ahead. And remember that the scars you carry aren’t reminders of pain; they’re proof that you overcame.
Take care,
Olamidotun.
P.S.: Feel free to forward this to someone who needs a little reminder and encouragement.
