{{contact.first_name}}, Don’t Run the Wrong Race

Sometimes, it’s not about how fast you’re running, it’s about making sure you’re on the right path.

Hello ,

Don’t run the wrong race and don’t run in the wrong path.

image

Now, my second daughter had a race recently, a 1.5-kilometer run and we were all convinced that she was going to win. She had trained, she had practiced so hard, she had done everything that was required for her to get ready for that race. Her coaches were convinced that she was going to win.

However, on the day of the race, I was surprised as she came in 3rd on the race.

As a parent, I was proud, but something in me thought, the timing was wrong. This girl was faster than this. As I went to hug her, I saw her cry and she said, “Mom, I was going to win.”

Apparently, she had been leading the race with a very long gap. She was first, she was doing very well only to realize that she was running on the wrong path.

image

And so she had to make a U-turn and go back and restart the race.

Of course, I was still proud because with all of that, she still came third. But the problem was that she was burnt out because she had run a longer distance than everybody else. And of course, the frustration of realizing that you could have won a race but then you came third.

My point here is I learned a big lesson through this.

Don’t run aimlessly in the wrong race that is not yours.

A lot of us are comparing ourselves, trying to be somebody else, or trying to do what our friends are doing just because we think it’s cool. We don’t ask ourselves: Is this really for me? Is this really my race? Am I running in the wrong part or am I running in the right part?

It’s something that I constantly ask myself — what am I doing?

You see, I have a notion and I believe that God made all of us different. God made all of us different for a reason. And it is simply because of that reason that you must find and know what you are made for and not try to be somebody else.

Don’t run aimlessly in the wrong race that is not yours. It’s important.

This is even more important as we go towards the end of the year — sit back and assess: What am I doing wrongly? There’s nothing worse than realizing at the end that you were doing it wrongly.

image

At least my daughter was able to retrace her steps in the middle of the race.

A lot of us need to spend time retracing our steps and assessing. Not once, but constantly throughout life. What are we doing wrongly? And what are we going to do right to make sure that we are running not somebody else’s race, but our own race.

Let me say this to you: You are special. You are different. You are unique. Nobody else needs to be like you. God made you exactly the way you are, with the story that you have for a reason.

image

And it is important that you run that race and live your beautiful life. Not anybody else’s.

I want you to win in life, not for anybody else, but for yourself. We all deserve to win in life.

As you go into this week, I want you to have a fantastic week.

But remember — don’t run somebody else’s race.

Run your own race and win at it.

You’re made for amazing things.

God bless you.

Take care,

Olamidotun.

“I am running my own race, not anyone else’s.

I am aligned with my purpose and pace.

I trust God’s timing and direction for my journey.

📖 1 Corinthians 9:24 (NKJV)
