{{contact.first_name}}, don’t throw it away

Hello ,

I’d like to start off this letter by saying thank you to every single person who sent me a message, a voice note, an email, or a phone call in the last week.

I’ve spent the past week celebrating and being thankful for the last 40 years.

I want to express my gratitude for every single message. I’m truly grateful, and I do not take it for granted.

My message for today is: Don’t throw it away.

Don’t throw anything away.

I’m going to share something very personal. I remember four years ago when my mom passed away. At that time, my mom didn’t have a lot but the few jewelry she had, she willed it to her three daughters.

I was very close to my mom, and when my share was delivered to me, it was a painful moment.

Just not having her physically close felt very painful.

I remember receiving the box and storing it away. In fact, I opened the jewelry, looked at it, bought a special box for it, and then hid it away in my closet so I wouldn’t have to look at it.

As time passed, I would open the box and admire the sets of unimaginable jewelry she had collected over the years; some pieces were very priceless and rare.

Every time I looked at the box, I thought, “I don’t want to wear anything here because the person who wore it is no longer here, we don’t have the same tastes, and it just brought back a lot of painful memories I didn’t want to revisit.”

Now, close to my 40th birthday, I found myself wishing my parents could be present. For those who may not know, both of my parents have passed away.

This can be a very sensitive topic at different points in life. So, as I longed for my mom around my birthday and prepared to travel, I thought it would be nice to have something that represented her with me.

As I stood before my closet, I looked at the box of jewelry and told myself, “No, this box will bring back too many painful memories I don’t want to relive.” But I decided to be bold and courageous enough to open it.

When I opened it, on top was a piece of jewelry she loved so much. Guess what? As I looked at it, I smiled, put it on, and it fit me perfectly. I wore three different pieces, smiling and crying at the same time. I promised myself that I would wear this during the week of my birthday.

My point here is: whatever it is that you’re hurting or struggling with, don’t throw it away. They say time heals and preserves things. Time makes things better.

Don’t throw away that relationship just because it doesn’t feel right.

Don’t throw away that opportunity because you feel there’s nothing to gain from it.

Time will heal. Time will pass. Just like me, time has healed, and four years later, the box of jewelry that I thought brought pain was filled with rare gems. As I wore them throughout the week, they filled me with lovely memories of my mom.

So, those opportunities and missed moments that you think you never want to remember—you will look back at them and say it all worked together for your good.

As you go into this new week, the last in February, don’t have any regrets. It will pass. Don’t discard any opportunity or relationship that could turn around for your good. Be optimistic and positive because God works all things together for your good.

At the end of the day, time is a healer. God is the ultimate healer and He is always with you.

Have a fantastic week. I love you very dearly.

Once again, thank you for celebrating with me.

Your girl, always smiling from the 4th floor,

Olamidotun VO.

Affirmation for the week

“God works all things together for my good. Every opportunity before me and every relationship before me will work out for my good. I have the ability to forgive and move on. I see the positive in things always. I am full of life and I’m great.”

Recommendations

Today, I am recommending the book, “The Purpose Driven Life” by Rick Warren. I read it earlier on in my life and I will recommend it for anyone who hasn’t read it. And even if you have, it might be a good time to read it again.
