Hello ,
Get rid of the old.
I absolutely hate clutter.
In fact, I think I’m always decluttering. I thought before this weekend that I was the queen of decluttering because I’m always looking through my stuff, looking for what to get rid of.
But this weekend was different. There’s a particular cabinet—this is a funny story—in my kitchen where I put bottles, all kinds of bottles, water bottles, flasks, kids’ bottles and all such, are what I keep there..
And for the last few months, my husband had been complaining that the cabinet was overflowing. We had so many bottles, old bottles, that we couldn’t even appreciate the new ones.
Now I kept saying, “I’m decluttering. I’ve gotten rid of so many bottles.” But he kept saying, “No, I think you need to look DEEP down inside.”
Those words DEEP down inside made me realize how much I was doing a kind of surface-level decluttering until this weekend when I looked DEEP inside. I found bottles I did not need.
And voila… I made space for the new. I could finally appreciate the new ones. I got rid of so many old ones.
And it hit me that this is life.
How many of us are going through life like this?
Doing so much, but only on the surface. Sometimes we need to go down DEEP inside to really assess what is going on.
Many of us are carrying things on the surface, clutter like old habits, old relationships, old hurts, even old commitments that make it impossible to truly welcome the new.
The book I love so much says “And no one puts new wine into old wineskins. For the old skins would burst from the pressure, spilling the wine and ruining the skins. New wine is stored in new wineskins so that both are preserved.” (Matthew 9:17 NLT).
Unless you get rid of old things, you cannot appreciate the new. In fact, you’ll break the container if you try.
In the same way, unless you let go of the old, you won’t be able to handle the new blessings waiting for you.
So this week, I want to encourage you to Look DEEP inside. Not just surface-level decluttering, but heart-level assessment of your life.
Get rid of the things you no longer need, whether in relationships, work, or even your thought life.
The little foxes are just as dangerous as the big ones.
Make space, because God has something new for you.
This week, let’s all make room for the new because life is too precious to hold on to what has already passed.
