2 people I'm trying to impress

May 08, 2022 12:31 pm

Greetings friends,

Here’s what I’m PUMPED about this week.

🤔 Time Travel

There are only two people you need to impress in your entire life:

Yourself at 80 and yourself at 8.

Impress both and you’ll impress others along the way too.

80-year-old self:

  • Has full perspective + knows what was important
  • Doesn’t remember who cut you off in traffic
  • Fears 4 words, “I wish I would’ve…”

8-year-old self:

  • Knows your DREAMS
  • Knows how to play and what brings you pure JOY
  • Knows what you wanted before you learned what was “possible”

👴 Timeless Wisdom

Kevin Kelly is the founder of Wired magazine and author of the uber-popular essay 1,000 True Fans.

He just turned 70 and published 103 Bits of Advice I Wish I had Known.

My 80-year-old self would be HYPED that I’m reading about 70-year-olds (picturing myself at 80 playing crypto-bingo, drinking a green smoothie).

Here are my favorite nuggets from Kevin’s essay.

  • "About 99% of the time, the right time is right now."
  • "Don't keep making the same mistakes; try to make new mistakes."
  • "Courtesy costs nothing. Lower the toilet seat after use. Let people exit the elevator before you enter. Return shopping carts. When you borrow something, return it in better shape (filled up, cleaned) than when you got it."

My new favorite phrase = "Courtesy costs nothing."

To-Do List vs Leverage List

I loveee a good framework.

This week’s framework is about how to leverage our most important asset, TIME.

What will you do this week to invest in your future self?

Much Love,
