A FREE Winter Math Mystery for Unit Rates ❄️
Feb 03, 2026 1:01 pm
Hi teacher friend,
January + unit rates = low energy and lots of confused faces 😅
When I really want students to think (without the groaning), I change the format.
👉 Quick teacher tip:
With unit rates, starting from real-life contexts + a short story makes a huge difference.
When students stop asking “Which operation do I use?” and start asking “Which clue do I need?”, you know it’s working.
That’s exactly why I created this new free mini math mystery 👇
❄️ Winter Games Math Mystery – FREE
Something is wrong at the Winter Games… one event has been sabotaged!
In this activity, students:
- solve unit rate problems
- analyze logic-based clues
- determine which winter sport was sabotaged
It’s short, no-prep, and perfect for:
- warm-ups
- the last 15 minutes of class
- small groups
- or anytime you want something different (but still meaningful!)

💡 Quick note:
If your students enjoy this mystery format, I use the same problem-solving approach in a Unit Rates Market Escape Room, with more practice and real-world scenarios — great for a full class period or review before assessments.

As always, I hope this saves you time (and a few repeated explanations 😉).
Let me know if you try it!
