The disruption

Hi ,

About a year ago a new booking came through my website for a Personal Style consultation.

Let's call her "Elena".

When someone books this session, it’s often because they want to know what works best for their body type. Sometimes it’s because their body has changed, or other times maybe it hasn't, yet they've developed a strong curiosity to learn more.

But when Elena arrived at the session, it became clear there was a lot more to it.

Over the past two years her life had changed dramatically.

Her marriage had ended. She had moved homes. She had become the primary parent to her nine-year-old while also navigating the complicated logistics that come with shared parenting.

In the middle of all that, she had started a new job with increased responsibilities.

It was the kind of period where life doesn’t move neatly forward. It shifts in several directions at once.

As we worked through the Personal Style session together, something became obvious.

It was about a woman whose life had changed faster than her identity had been able to catch up.

And style was an area where she still had autonomy and could control.

Personal style becomes interesting at moments like this. In Elena's session I was very glad we had the time to properly explore her nuances. Sure, I was able to pinpoint her X body shape, petite proportions and longer body, square face shape, etc, etc. And her blueprint on what works best.

But it was our deep discussion on her values and likes/dislikes that actually revealed the most. I learned that Elena is ambitious and driven, but feels held back by both her parental guilt and how colleagues or leadership respond to her.

Because when the ground moves under your feet, understanding yourself again becomes surprisingly helpful and supportive.

So with this context we assessed Elena's natual physical presence and talked at length about how she could increase "presence" via her outfits.

I know Elena genuinely got what she needed from the session.

And before leaving, she booked her Colour Analysis.

There’s a lot more to Elena’s story. I’ll share the next chapter with you next week.
