For those of you in the US, Happy Independence Day. I hope you ate yourself sick and saw some awesome fireworks yesterday! For the rest of you, just make up an excuse then eat too many hotdogs and oodles of ice cream
I love the Fourth of July holiday. It is one of my favorites. First, of course, because we celebrate with food, fireworks and a day off of work, but also because I am a fan of all the founding fathers who had the nerve to take on one of the most powerful countries in the world and say, “screw you, we’re going it alone!” They were young, brash, they had each other, and they got the job done. Yesterday the US celebrated 246 years as an independent nation.
Actually, I am spending the month saluting freedom and independence. In my case, though, I am celebrating Independent, or indie authors. I am saluting Indie bookstores too! All of us float upstream against powerful forces from Amazon to the big publishing houses like Simon and Schuster. And our jobs are harder, since we tackle it all—writing, editing, marketing, advertising, networking—everything that happens, we make happen.
But enough whining…on to the salute!
Beguiling Bachelors
One of the lovely things for me about being an independent author is the ability to promote my books any way I want. I can give them away for free, for example, or drop the price, I
can give free copies to other authors for them to share with their readers, too. Yep, anything I want.
And to celebrate July, I am doing all of those things! Beginning July 15th, I will have a free weekend for Bedazzled. Then a week later I will lower the price on Beholden to 99¢, then slowly increase it back to normal. A week later, I will do the same thing with Bedeviled. Detecting a pattern? Watch for Besotted to be on sale in August.
Why? To encourage new readers, of course, but also to get people who started the series to finish reading all four books. After all, I am a creator. My goal is to write so that readers can read.

July may be all about the bachelors, but the Crazies are making a comeback in August. Sofia’s story Crazy to Believe will be available in early August and perhaps I can sneak Avery’s Way Past Crazy in before the Labor Day holiday too. Watch for two more Crazy tales before year end and the rest of the series in 2023. These women offer us loads to look forward to.

IndieBound is dedicated to helping connect readers with Independent bookstores. These stores are struggling to survive in many cases. I cannot imagine a rainy day without a bookstore to wander. I would be lost without a knowledgeable bookstore employee helping me find a great gift. My one regret as an indie author is my inability to compete for bookstore space.
When I moved back to Chicago from California, I lived within two blocks of three bookstores. Now only one remains, but it is a very special place. I have been to book readings and signings sponsored by nearby bookstores that are incredibly special.
