Mission Statement:

Kingdom Builders ministry exists to serve homeowners in the greater Oneonta area by providing quality labor to address construction needs that they are unable to accomplish by their own means. Although the practical focus is on construction, the spiritual focus is on building relationships with those served, with the end goal of demonstrating the love of Christ through ministry.

A heart for ministry

Hello all,

This past month our church has experienced a loss of a brother from this world. imageAlan Weill. Alan was a very compassionate, caring, loving guy who was on fire for the Lord. He was a greeter at our church. There wasn't a Sunday morning where he didn't greet with a smile and a quirky joke. He had a ministry of card giving. He personally wrote in each card words of encouragement and his love for the Lord. I don't think there was a single person in our church family that wasn't blessed by his card giving. He made sure there wasn't a holiday or a birthday of mine that came that he didn't bless me with cards, gifts and oh yes, some baked goods. He knew I loved my baked goods. He and I were in a Bible study group together a few years back. I would pick him up

and we would share personal stories of our family during our ride in the car. I would share my pain of my lost family members and he his. His heart ached for his daughter and her salvation - I would share the same of my son. He always asked me about my son from then on as I would of his daughter. It was a closeness we continued to share. I also helped Alan out with repairs on his home before we started Kingdom Builders. He was always very appreciative of anything I could do for him. And would bless me with some homemade cookies. Alan had a limited income, but he made sure he gave abundantly. He sponsored a couple of children financially as well as this ministry. I would hand deliver our newsletter to him and he was always overjoyed to get it and tell me he couldn't wait to read it. Alan was a true example of Christ to me and many others. Our pastor mentioned recently that God must have needed a greeter in heaven. Alan sure does fit that part. Would you please pray for Alans family as they mourn his exit from this world? Please pray for his daughter April that this may bring her to the gracious loving arms of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. We will certainly miss brother Alan here on earth, but we rejoice in knowing he is now in the arms of our Lord and greeting everyone with a huge smile and a quirky joke. And we will see him again.

As Alans ministry was cards, gifts and words of encouragement, the Kingdom Builders ministry of serving through home repair is thriving. We finished up part of our next project of a bathroom remodel.

God blessed us with the funds to bless this homeowner with the repairs. We have more to do here and we will continue forward with this project as funds come available. We have received three more applications for needs and will be assessing them soon to see if we can get them on our schedule.

As always thank you for your support and prayers. Together we are accomplishing great things for the Lord. Our brother Alan always made sure to remind me of what a blessing Kingdom Builders is and how he was thrilled to be a supporter. Thank you all!

Andy

Message from the Board

Next to loving God, loving people is of utmost importance (Matt 22:37-40). How we treat people in the process of accomplishing ministry has eternal significance (1 Cor 13:1-3). Process matters so much because people matter.

When I reflect on the work the board has accomplished this past year, we have spent a good amount of time in conversation around our processes and finalizing administrative functions of the ministry. Balancing what we need to do to “keep the doors open” along with best serving each other and our ministry applicants is always top of mind.

In thinking of our ministry applicants, we wanted to provide a well communicated and understandable process. We finalized an official acceptance letter for our approved project applicants along with a Home Improvement Contract outlining the terms and conditions of the work Andy will be doing. Nothing replaces the relationship that Andy builds with our ministry applicants but at least we can start the process on the right foot! In the spirit of fellowship, we marked the completion of our first project with a dedication luncheon for Chloe and her family including Andy and the board. As Chloe is believer this was a great reflection of koinonia, the Greek word for fellowship, meaning “holding something in common”.

We also thought about ministry partnerships. We started a marketing plan with components of focus like ministry outreach, donation avenues and community involvement. This marketing plan is still a work in progress, and we hope to keep evolving it over time, however this year we were able to do a couple of things. Ministry outreach is about “getting the word out” and we were able to visit several churches to introduce Kingdom Builders along with creating an official “KB” Facebook page. As a suggestion from the church events, we started to talk about creating a tangible brochure and business card to give attendees as a takeaway.

We are also planning to expand our presence on Facebook through a cadence around content postings and updates.  We are exploring our donation avenues, to increase our revenue streams, and are actively looking for someone who knows about grants and grant writing so we can discern if grants may have a place in the ministry and what that could look like going forward. We have also drafted a letter about the ministry that we plan to send to local business in hopes of gaining ministry partners. We hope to foster community involvement in the ministry as well through volunteering and have posted a volunteer application on our website.

As we thought about each of us on the board and Andy’s role in the ministry we thought about protection. We were able to secure our board insurance at the end of 2020 along with instating a health insurance program for Andy. Administratively, we were able to finalize and assign terms and term limits for board members. Additionally, wanting to be good stewards of what God has entrusted us with, we created monthly reporting and review of our budget and financial statements.

It has been a busy year!! And I am so thankful for God’s divine agenda. That even in doing what He has asked, the results are so much greater than we could imagine. Even in our failed attempts, He blows me away with his faithfulness to provide what we need. Thank you all for bearing witness and being on this journey with us.

PRAISE AND PRAYERS

Praise:

For Alan’s family, that they may find comfort and peace. Restore joy to their souls and keep praise on their lips.

For Alan’s daughter, that her heart may be softened, and that God would dwell within her. That she may come to Christ and be freed from the slavery of sin.

For all our lost brothers and sisters, that God would remove them from the devil’s snare so that they may be restored to a right relationship with God.
