Enjoying the warlock's blood

As much fun as a Molotov cocktail.
An evening last week I told myself I was going to do something productive like working on Kit Melbourne book ten. (I’m moving house this autumn so finishing the novel is taking longer than anticipated.) Instead I picked up a copy of Warlock’s Blood, intending to pack it in a box. Next thing I know, it’s past my bedtime and I’ve read half the book.
One of the fun things about writing is to create things which may not exist, but seem plausible. Someone told me that there are townhouses in London where the basements go down five floors to maximize the square footage, so I created a house in Philadelphia with that feature. Probably doesn’t exist, but it’s plausible.
One of my favorite details? The camping scene with the Price Savers Artificially Flavored Strawberry Malt Beverage, which probably doesn’t exist in real life but we all can picture exactly what it tastes like.
Other favorite detail? When Kit gets to throw a Molotov cocktail, which I really wanted to put in Sorrow’s Apprentice, but somehow couldn’t fit in. I was able to slip it into one scene in this book. I remember talking about it with my dad and another friend and both aghast that I’d never thrown one in real life. (Apparently, I had a more sheltered childhood than I thought.) If you haven't read this book yet, it's as much fun as throwing a homemade incindiary but involves less fire and broken glass so it will keep your landlord happy.
Warlock's Blood is book eight in the series, but I don't think you'll be very lost if you haven't caught up on the others. (Scroll down to the bottom for links to books you may have missed.)
