7 months post fire!

Hey Super !
First, I am so excited, I reached the end of my edits for Dragon Girl 3: Power Thief. I think I need some beta readers, so I'm on the lookout for a couple volunteers. I don't know if I am successfully doing what I am going for with the main arc. So please, if you're interested in giving me some overall feedback, let me know. I am debating if my next project is edits on Gold Valley Mysteries or to knock out a rough draft of my next superhero book.
Next, I know most of the folks are new here, so in November my house caught fire. That first night, the fire department warned us to make sure to let our insurance company know we needed the "Large Loss" department. While only the front room burned, everything inside was contaminated with toxic smoke. Inside for about two months it looked like the upside down in Stranger Things. Dark and full of soot. We're just about seven months post-fire, and it doesn't look like that anymore.
Now there's bathtubs, and plumbing, and air conditioner ducts. Beyond that, I'm not sure. We're looking at moving home this fall.
I don't have a new picture of inside because they finally took off the plywood with a padlock and replaced it with an actual front door with a deadbolt! These are from last month ago, and that gaping floor in the hole has a bathtub now.
Our home was older, so the post-fire abatement removed all of the lead paint and asbestos that we'd been trying to figure out how we would deal with.
On the other hand, I am sad that the hard work we put into the house is also gone.
I can no longer point to the flooring in the bonus room, and tell the kids, your Poppa did that. Or the siding on the house and say, my Poppa did that. Or the electrical in the sunroom, your dad's grandpa did that.
But we're getting high quality replacements for everything and we'll be able to say without a doubt β oh yeah, that was installed in 2025 for just about everything.
And we're safe in a rental, walking to the park most days. For the most part, life is good. Though it's full of change.
That's the superhero way, right? Adventures, change, sudden surprises? We're building strong memories and teaching ourselves that we can handle the hard things and stay super. But also, that it's okay to grieve your losses.
Send me an email sharing how you grew after a hard time -- or how you struggled -- and we'll work on staying super together.
Stay Super!
