Around these parts, most people are still dealing with downed trees and limbs all over the place from the ice storm. I've got a mini chainsaw that I've been sawing up larger limbs with--to use for firewood next season. My chickens can't get enough of it! They follow me around, get underfoot, and explore every blade of grass under the fallen limbs as I move them. What's a chore for me has become a highlight for them! Oh, that I could be more like a chicken (in some ways. haha)
I'm surprised by how many people comment to me about how nice it must be to save money on eggs by having a backyard flock. Raising chickens for eggs isn't cheaper than the factory eggs you can buy at the store. In fact, it's usually a LOT more!
This week I have some help, though. I've put together over 20 ways you can raise chickens without breaking the bank! Whether your a seasoned chicken owner or a newbie, I'm sure there are nuggets you can glean.
And tell me--what are some ways YOU save money on the costs of raising chickens? I, too, am always ready to learn more!
Peace, Love, and Chickens,
PS Do you know people who are just starting (or want to start) their own backyard flock? If so, could you please share this email with them? Thanks so much!
