King's Day, my dad's hair, and a giveaway for the redhead lovers. πŸ«…πŸ‘‘

A dreamy, fantasy forest with tall, ethereal trees and colorful foliage in shades of purple, pink, orange, and blue, illuminated by soft, glowing light. with the text: Blaine D. Arden - Queer Romantic SFF - Our Difference Is Our Strength

Hello, Flaming Forest Dweller,

🧑 Orange On Top!

Tomorrow is King's Day. The National Holiday that turns our whole country orange.

Crowds or orange beer aren't quite my thing, but I can't begrudge anyone digging out their most gloriously chaotic orange outfit and making a wonderful day of it.

The one thing I absolutely love? The orange tompouce!

(I prefer mine with pastry cream; no whipped cream needed.)

My dad is ginger (well, mostly white now, considering he's over 80), and for a long time as a kid, I really, really wanted to be, too (with green eyes, obviously). There was something about the way it catches light, the way it feels like its own kind of magic. I wanted that magic.

My compulsion to write redheads is no doubt a leftover of that childhood dream. I never set out to write them, but I keep inserting them everywhere. At some point I had to actively remind myself that not every main character needs copper curls or a flame-red braid. Show some restraint, Blaine.

But King's Day is orange, my dad is ginger, and my redhead MCs are some of my favourites. So today, I'm leaning in.

Which side of the hair colour divide are you on?

Team GINGER!

(obviously correct)

OR

Anything BUT Ginger!

(we reluctantly respect your position)

All voters are entered to win an ebook of How Six Saved the Frogs (or a backlist book of your choice if you already own it). Because "Oranje boven"*, whatever colour captures your imagination. πŸ˜‰.

Happy King's Day.πŸ«…

and until next week,

Blaine

crossing all eir fingers and toes for that wish to come true one day

* Oranje boven literally means "orange on top". It's a Dutch expression of national pride, a cheer for the House of Orange, the Dutch royal family.
