Interest rate at 4.5%: what does the rise mean for you?

There have now been 12 consecutive increases to the base rate of interest, with the latest putting it at the highest rate since late 2008. I've taken a look at what the Bank of England forecasts for inflation and rates for the rest of 2023, plus what it means for your savings and mortgage.

Those sneaky folks at Barclays are at it again, with yet more closures announced for later this year. It means a total of 110 will shut in 2023. Find out which ones.

1. Co-operative Bank: £125 refer-a-friend bank switch

Another bank switch deal, though this one requires you to be referred by an existing customer. Don't worry, I've set up a thread in my Facebook group so we can "pay it forward" and you can each get a referral and also offer to refer one other person for another £125. More here.

2. Sprive: Free £10 towards your mortgage

There's a boosted referral deal for autosaving app Sprive, with money you put aside going to your mortgage. For the next few days get £10 instead of £5 when you sign up. Here's more.

3. Flights: BA and Virgin Atlantic sales

If you're still to book a holiday for this summer, or more realistically autumn and winter, it's worth seeing if there are bargains in these sales. Here's more.

4. Apple TV+: Free offers ending

There are two months free streaming for all and 6 months for Sky customers ending in the next few weeks. Here's more.

5. Broadband: £12 tariffs for those on benefits

If you get Universal Credit, ESA, Pension Credit or other benefits you can access cut price broadband deals, starting at £12 a month. Here's more.

6. Fixed savings: 5% on 12 & 18 month fixes

If you missed the 5% fixes from a few weeks ago, there are some new ones this week from Allica Bank for 12 and 18 months, and not far behind for longer fixes. More here.
