The Best Money Making apps
If you're looking to boost your income in the new year, could your phone be the answer?
I've taken a look at some of the most popular apps for surveys, cashback, market research, receipt scanning and selling to help you decide which ones are worth downloading.
Interest rate now 0.25% and inflation at 5.1%
Last week the Bank of England took the decision to increase the base interest rate by 0.15%, following figures showing inflation had topped 5%.
In this video I've looked at what this means for savers, your household expenses and your mortgage.
Why you’re paying too much for medication
Do you always buy branded meds? Items like Lemsip or Nurofen? Yes, these cost more than own-brand items, but surely that's because they're better at making you better?
Well, possibly not. In fact items can be identical apart from the packaging. I've had a look at how you can compare different medications and ways to reduce the costs of prescriptions.

THIS WEEK'S TOP DEALS
I only share deals and special offers on the blog which I think are really good value. Click the titles or links for more information.
I'll also share a quick update on Instagram on Saturday morning.
1. Just Eat: 1/3 back via Starling or Monzo
If you connect your Monzo or Starling account to the cashback app Flux you can get 33% back on a Just Eat order, along with deals for Itsu, Papa Johns and H&M. More here.
2. Apple Music: Up to 5 months free
Use the app Shazam to get 5 months free Apple Music if you're new, or up to three months if you're an existing customer. Meanwhile Currys and Barclaycard also have deals for free months. Here's more on the offers.
3. Cinema: Free tickets and more
With the new Spider-man and Matrix movies out now, it's worth seeing where you can save at the cinema. My ultimate list of deals includes:
- Vue ticket and pizza for £5
- 2 Odeon tickets and a £10 restaurant voucher for £10
- Cineworld Unlimited for three months
- 2-4-1 tickets all year for £1
4. Pubs: Free pint of Guinness
The app Dusk is now nationwide and you can get a free drink at selected pubs, including a free pint of Guinness. More here.
5. The Big Issue: 4 editions for £11
With less footfall on the high street and in stations, it's obviously harder for Big Issue vendors to sell issues right now. If you want to support, or need to buy someone a last-minute Christmas present, then you can pick up a short one-month subscription from £11. More here.
6. Supermarkets: Festive bargains
Don't forget that many supermarkets will close on Christmas Day and Boxing Day so there will be plenty of food reduced to clear. And once they reopen expect lots of Christmas goodies on clearance too! Find out when they'll be closed.
