BLOG: UK economy officially in recession

We all already knew the economy has taken a massive hit due to Covid, but yesterday the latest figures showed we're officially in recession.

I've taken a look at what this actually means.

The impact of this recession

BLOG: Chip fees to change again

Back in June the savings app Chip started charging for some features. That obviously hasn't worked so the company is revising them from October, with a £1.50 monthly fee for using the auto-save feature.

I've updated my review to explain how it'll be charged and whether I think it's time to ditch it.

How much Chip will cost from October

BLOG: Are you overpaying for an old Sky TV package?

If you still pay for Sky TV rather than NOW TV then it's worth checking you're not on an old package which could be costing you more than the new options released earlier this year.

Plus whether it's worth paying for Netflix via your Sky account.

The top deals this week

I only share deals and special offers on the blog which I think are really good value. Click the red titles or blue links for more information.

Plus, it's worth following me on Instagram where I post any extra deals which come too late for the newsletter, including a deals of the week video update on Friday.

1. 20 months 0% balance transfer credit card with no fee

If you have any credit card debts which are charging you interest then you really should try to get it on a 0% interest card. Obviously you need to check eligibility first, but it's possible to get 18 months with no transfer fee from Santander, or 20 months from Natwest for existing customers.

Here's my round up of the leading offers for balance transfer and other credit cards.

2. Echo Dot for £21

If you have Amazon Prime and haven't used Amazon Music Unlimited before you should be able to get this smart speaker and a two-month trial of the music service for £20.97. Here's how.

3. Lidl £5 off £25 spend

There's a new Lidl loyalty app launching in September but it seems to be live already - and you can get a coupon for £5 off when you spend £25. More here.

4. Free Champions League and Europa League final

Once again BT Sport will show the finals for both major European football tournaments for free on the 21st and 23rd August.

If you're keen to watch the remaining quarter and semi-finals before then you'll need the full BT Sport. EE customers can get it free for three months, or anyone can buy a month pass for £25.

5. Two-for-one vouchers for Yo, GBK, Nandos & more

New packs of Walkers crisps are based on items from popular chain restaurants and come with 2-4-1 vouchers, which can be used alongside Eat Out to Help Out too.
