My top articles this week

1. Debenhams in danger – your rights

Another big high street shop has gone into administration this week, with department store Debenhams looking to find a new owner. It's still trading as normal for now, but is it safe to shop there? Here's what you need to know about your consumer rights.

2. Happy new financial year

We're a few days into the new tax year, and with it changes to how much tax you'll pay on your salary, higher pension contributions and increases to bills like Council Tax and water. I've pulled together a summary of the main things you need to know - and if you'd rather listen than read it's also available as a podcast.

3. Seven steps to get the best value hotel rooms

Getting the cheapest hotel room you can find isn't always the best idea. Instead really you should be aiming to get a decent room at the lowest price possible. Here's what I do to bring down how much I pay when booking.

The top deals this week

I only share deals and special offers on the blog which I think are really good value - and here they are for you too. First some newbies in a bit more detail, then some you might have missed from previous weeks. Click the red titles or blue links for more information.

1. Cheapest way to watch the new Game of Thrones

The final season of Game of Thrones is back on Monday - but only if you have Sky Atlantic. Fortunately, you don't need to have a Sky subscription as the channel is available via NOW TV. I've rounded up the cheapest ways you can do this, including the possibility to get make £5 profit!

2. New bank switching offer - £175 with Natwest

This new switching offer is £125 upfront (paid into your account by August) and another £50 if you stick with the bank until June 2020. It's open to existing Natwest customers too. My pick of accounts is the Natwest Reward account where you get cashback on your bills.

TSB has also introduced a £75 refer-a-friend scheme, though it's also dropping its savings rate from 5% to 3% in June. I'll write more on whether you should move your cash nearer the time.

3. Free pint of Punk IPA

Over the next six weeks of so you can pick up a free pint of Brewdog's signature craft beer in Bristol, Leeds, London, Birmingham, Cardiff and Manchester. Here's where and when the offer is coming to those towns.

4. Amazon spring sale

Until 15th April Amazon is holding a spring sale. Deals are mixed, but there are decent discounts (as always on these events) on Amazon devices such as Echo speakers, Kindles and Fire TV. I've also spotted a low price for a Hive smart thermostat. It's still not cheap at £149 but it is almost as cheap as it's ever been making it worth grabbing if you've been waiting for a price drop.
