Adam's World Weekly for 12/29

Welcome to the new week everyone, and happy almost new year.

This is a bit of a strange week, right? The holidays are in the rear view mirror, it isn’t quite 2026 yet, and stores are hurriedly putting out all their Valentine’s Day merch.

Also, with so much college football on, every day feels like a Saturday.

My Christmas was expectedly difficult, but I did wake up early to spend some time reading in the peaceful quiet of the post-dawn hours. I’m still making my way through at 500+ biography on Jim Morrison that I’ll likely finish sometime this week.

After visiting my dad, I headed to the house to take care of a few things – wild stuff, like changing light bulbs, paying bills, and making sure the boss (aka Bragi, his cat) was happy. I also installed some solar powered fake plants in the garden (they aren’t as cheesy at they sound, I swear), and lemme tell ya, ripping up weeds by the roots while grunting, and cursing at them is a HIGHLY effective form of therapy.

This past week I also wrote a big article I’d been working on for a while. I have a few notebooks around the house, and in my travel bag, and in one particular notebook I’d made four pages of notes about something music related I’d been thinking about for quite some time, and on Friday I finally sat down, figured out how I wanted to connect it all, and wrote what I hope will be a much talked about column once it goes up.

That piece will be published in the coming weeks. For this week’s update I’m leading things off with something New Year’s themed – a Pop Shots that takes a look at three artists that can help with anyone’s “new year, new me” resolution.

In addition to that column I also have a look at three of my favorite unexpected record store finds of 2025, which range from a surprising insert, to something international, to a forgotten part of a famous artist’s past.

Finally, this week’s NYC Scene Report features three new tunes from some of the city’s best.
