Hospitalisation/Integrated Shield Plan Rider Changes (Please Take Note)

Hi ,

You may have heard about recent changes to Integrated Shield Plan riders starting 1 April.

I wanted to summarise what this means for you in a simple way.

What has changed?

New riders launched by insurers will:

No longer cover the deductible (as required by MOH)

• Increase the co-payment cap from $3,000 to $6,000 per policy year

What about your current plan?

For now, insurers are not moving existing policyholders to the new rider.

👉 This means your current rider (which covers the deductible) can still be kept.

What does this mean in practice?

The deductible is the first portion of your hospital bill

(typically around $3,500 for private hospitals).

If you switch to the new rider:

• You will need to pay the deductible in cash (~$3,500)

• Your co-payment cap increases to $6,000

👉 This means your total potential out-of-pocket can go up to ~$9,500 per policy year

In other words, what used to feel “fully covered”

may now require a much higher cash outlay during a claim.

Should you switch?

The new rider is generally lower in premium,

but it comes with higher out-of-pocket risk.

There’s no urgent need to make a change.

It really comes down to your preference:

• Lower premium over time

vs

• More predictable medical costs during a claim

Additional updates

Alongside the new riders, insurers have also introduced new enhancements and benefits to their plans.

I will be summarising and sharing these updates over the course of next week.

If you would like to understand how these changes affect you specifically, feel free to reach out to me anytime.

What I’ve prepared for you

I’ve done a premium comparison for INCOME, HSBC Life, and Singlife for your reference.

If your policy is with another insurer — even if it’s not currently under my care I’m still happy to help you review and update you accordingly.
