KNOSK'S THIRD TERM BEGINS IN MAY

On May 2nd, 2023, as is our culture we celebrated the resumption of the third term of the 2022/2023 academic session with a highly anticipated welcome-back party for the students.

At the assembly ground, we reminded them about the significance of the third term and its importance as a transition term into the next class. Overall, it was a rejuvenating experience for the students and staff as they had a dance exercise and photo session before resuming academic activities for the term.

Also, as part of our welcome back protocols, it was necessary for us to ensure that the atmosphere was welcoming with a clean environment, kitchen stocked and ready for the kids, and workbooks made available for learning.

BACK TO SCHOOL BLESSINGS FROM OUR MEALTIME ANGELS

We are thrilled to share this exciting news with you! In the early weeks of May, we received an incredible donation of foodstuff from remarkable friends and partners of the KNOSK School: Chef Tina @officialcheftina and Sandy Nnah @therapist_sandynnah, courtesy of Panteka.ng and the Abuja Business Visibility group. Their generosity knows no bounds, and we are truly grateful for their support.

Donations like this are very crucial as they help us provide our students with nutritious meals throughout the term and ensure that no child at the KNOSK school is hungry or starving while learning.

If you would like to join in and contribute to our feeding program as a mealtime angel, we warmly welcome your donations.

You can conveniently send your contribution to GTBank, YDI-KNOSK Project, account number 0482821015. Every donation, no matter the amount, will make a significant difference in the lives of these students.

SAVE THE BOYS INITIATIVE CELEBRATES INTERNATIONAL DAY OF THE BOY CHILD WITH KNOSK BOYS

On May 16th, 2023, we had the honor of hosting incredible guests from the Save The Boys Initiative (@savetheboysinitiative). This organization is dedicated to mentoring, equipping, and empowering boys to lead positive and productive lives. We were privileged to have the presence of the organization's founder, Coach Ebuka (@ebuka_boyscoach), and Teen Leadership Coach Chunu Teajay (@unusualteajay) from MyTOF Nation.

During their visit, Coach Ebuka and Coach Teajay delivered powerful messages of responsibility, love, and self-worth to our boys. They reminded them that they are loved, special, and valued members of our community. As a generous gesture, they gifted all the boys of JSS1 and JSS2 with the book "The Journey Into Manhood" authored by Ebuka and Ruth Ede.

This visit was also coupled with an invitation to the International Boys Conference 2023, organized every year by Save The Boys Initiative. This year, the founder of the International Day of the Boy Child Dr. Jerome Teelucksingh was present as a guest speaker and our KNOSK boys were privileged to be part of such an amazing conference.

KNOSK N100-A-DAY SCHOOL GETS ACCREDITED FOR ERC AND NECO BECE

Great news! The Knosk School is now an accredited center for ERC and NECO Basic Education Certificate Examinations. This is a significant achievement that marks a new milestone in our academic journey.

The BECE, or Basic Education Certificate Examination, is conducted for candidates in their third year of Junior Secondary School, preparing them for the transition into Senior Secondary School. It serves as a critical step in their educational progression.

We are proud to announce that our JSS3 students have already commenced the NECO BECE (Basic Education Certificate Examination) on the 15th of May. This examination holds immense importance as it showcases the knowledge and skills our students have acquired throughout the years. It is a testament to their hard work, dedication, and commitment.

We wish our solvers the best of luck and we believe in each and every one of them, we cannot wait to witness their triumphs.

We would also like to express our heartfelt gratitude to the MacArthur Foundation and Step Up Nigeria for their generous grant. Thanks to their support, we were able to offset all the accreditation costs associated with this achievement. Your contribution has made a significant impact on our school community.

CANCER AWARENESS AT THE KNOSK SCHOOL WITH OKAPI CHILDREN CANCER FOUNDATION

Did you know that cancer affects millions of lives worldwide, including innocent children? Cancer does not discriminate, and it can impact anyone, regardless of age. At the KNOSK N100-a-Day School, we had the honor of hosting guests from the Okapi Children Cancer Foundation (OCCF) once again, an organization dedicated to creating awareness of childhood cancer in Nigeria and providing vital support to children fighting this disease.

During their visit, the OCCF team enlightened our students about cancer, its different types, and the available treatment options. They also generously shared gifts of notebooks and snacks, bringing joy to the children's faces and reminding us of the strength and resilience these young fighters possess.

We invite you to join us in extending our support to the Okapi Children Cancer Foundation (OCCF). By donating or volunteering, we can contribute to their mission of supporting children and their families affected by cancer. Together, we can make a difference and bring smiles to the faces of these brave fighters.

Your contributions can help OCCF continue its impactful work, raising awareness, and providing essential support to those in need. Whether it's a financial contribution or volunteering your time, every effort counts and can make a significant impact.

HAVE YOU HEARD ABOUT PROJECT 9'90? HERE IS WHY YOU SHOULD JOIN PROJECT 9'90!

We are in our fourth school year since the inception of KNOSK School in September 2019. Over these four sessions, we have grown from 30 to 107 students, overstretching our current building from just a simple 5-bedroom duplex to adding 7 additional rooms to accommodate all our learners.

This current facility also houses our ICT lab, science lab, workshop, library, and sickbay, along with 7 classrooms. There is barely enough room to accommodate the number of teachers we have.

For every 30 children we admit each year, we are unable to admit an average of 70 children from low-income families due to lack of space. There are 20.4 million out-of-school children, we would like to take in a minimum of 100 children every school year.

We've also seen cases of children who came to take our entrance exams but couldn't read or write after finishing primary school. We would like to set up a literacy center and program for children like this in Kuje. These kids are from the poorest families, so they will not be able to afford any intervention in the future. This already excludes them from future opportunities.

As of today, UNICEF records that 75% of Nigerian children aged 14 and below are unable to read. We want to do something about that.

Finally, we want to set up a Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) center where these children can get solid livelihood skills as part of their mainstream education. After graduation, we want them to be financially independent, whether or not they advance to the university.

For this reason, we have set out to raise funds to build nine (9) classrooms in 90 days.
