Stored and Current fault codes: What's the difference?
Apr 29, 2025 3:23 pm
Happy Tuesday !
Have you scanned your car with a scanner for the first time, and have seen "current" and "stored" codes? Confusing... right? Don't worry, we're here to help you out!
⏱️ Current fault codes are active diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) that tell you if there is a problem with your car now. If the check engine light is on in your car's dashboard, these codes can help you identify the problem.
🤔 Can you clear current fault codes?
➡️ Yes, but if the problem isn't fixed, the code will just come back.
📦Stored fault codes are DTCs from previous car problems that are not currently an issue. These codes can help you identify potential regular problems in your car.
🤔 Can you clear stored codes?
➡️ Yes, but just like the current codes, if the problem isn't resolved, the code can come back.
Pro tip: The YOUCANIC scanner can scan for DTCs in many systems in your car, like the ABS and airbag systems.
Keep up the good work ! Feel free to reach out to our support team if you need help deciphering any particularly confusing fault codes.
