Electronic Stability Control (ESC): What is it?

May 27, 2025 4:07 pm

Hello !

Has an Electronic Stability Control (ESC) warning light come on in your vehicle? What does that mean?

The ESC (also known as the ESP – Electronic Stability Program or DSC – Dynamic Stability Control) is a safety feature in most modern cars that uses sensors to determine what direction the driver is turning, preventing the vehicle from skidding. Various problems can cause this feature to malfunction, including faulty sensors, defective control modules, and software glitches.

🤔How do you diagnose and fix this issue?

✅You can use a YOUCANIC full-system scanner to find fault codes related to the ESC to fix this issue like a pro!

If you don't have access to a scanner, there are other troubleshooting tasks you can try:

1️⃣Check your steering angle sensors: Look for loose wiring or dirt on the sensors. Your ESC relies on these sensors to function, so this should be one of the first things you check!

2️⃣Check your steering angle sensor: This component will need to be recalibrated every now and then.

3️⃣Check your battery voltage: Occasionally, a dead or dying battery can lead to various warning lights appearing on your dashboardl.

Until next time, . Don't forget to post your repair story to encourage other car owners to take on their own repairs! Just send us a few pictures and write a couple paragraphs about the problem you were experiencing and what you did to fix it! (You might even have a chance to win a YOUCANIC battery tester if you do!)

Best regards,
