Happy Tuesday !
Has the check engine light or service engine light come on in your vehicle? This could be an indicator that something is very wrong. Use an OBD-II scanner to scan for fault codes!
Fault codes, or diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs), are five-digit codes stored in your vehicle's engine control unit (ECU) and tell you what is wrong with your car. Keep reading here!
What does that code mean?
Let's say the code 'C1500' pops up during a scan:
- The first digit will be a letter, telling you what system is causing the code. 'C' indicates the code is related to an issue with your vehicle's chassis.
- The '1' signals that this problem is vehicle-specific.
- The '5' marks that this is a problem with the vehicle's speed control or idle system
- The last two digits, '00', mark the specific issue: encoder circuit failure.
It is helpful to have a code lookup website handy when scanning your vehicle, like the YOUCANIC DTC Fault Codes article, or Kelly Blue Book's list of OBD-II Codes.
Until next time, , keep up the great work! Remember, if you've recently fixed a problem in your car, consider posting your repair success story on our website to empower other DIY enthusiasts!
