I'm a sales girl who sucked at marketing, which are you?

Hey ,
I'll be honest with you—I'm a sales girl who sucked at marketing.
For years, I leaned hard into what I was good at: selling. I could close deals, build relationships, and convert like nobody's business. But marketing? Lead generation? Content strategy? I avoided it like the plague.
And you know what happened? I plateaued.
Because here's the truth: mastering one system and ignoring the rest is a crutch.
Maybe you're like me—great at sales but terrible at marketing. Or maybe it's the opposite. You can market like a pro, pull in tons of leads, but when it comes time to close? Crickets.
Or maybe you're amazing at both, but the follow-up? The return revenue systems? The detail work that keeps clients coming back? You'd rather do anything else.
I get it. No one likes doing what they're not good at.
But here's what I've learned: the things you're great at now? You weren't always great at them. Someone coached you. Someone pushed you. You faced that skill over and over until you got good.
And now, years later, you're crushing it in that area.
The problem? We stop there.
We avoid the pain of another learning curve. We use our strengths as a crutch and settle for "good enough" in the areas we avoid.
But if you really want to level up—if you want to dominate—you have to become well-rounded.
Think like an Olympian
Olympians don't have weak spots. They're exceptional across the board. Sure, they have strengths, but they don't ignore the rest. They train everything.
And on game day? It comes down to execution. Who showed up best that day.
But here's the kicker: even if an Olympian doesn't medal at the Olympics, they still place everywhere else in the world.
That's the payoff. When you stop settling for two A's and three F's, you become unstoppable.
So here's my challenge for you:
What system are you avoiding?
You love marketing but hate sales? You're settling for 3-7% conversions when direct sales converts at 13-25%. For every 100 leads, you're closing 3-7 deals instead of 13-25. And businesses waste 20-30% of ad budgets on leads they never convert. You're paying for hope, not revenue.
You're great at sales but don't market? You choke-hold the same small pool of prospects because your pipeline is starving. Without marketing, you hit a revenue ceiling fast. Your competitors with strong marketing sit in front of 10x more qualified leads—and don't work nearly as hard to hit their targets.
You're a builder who creates great products no one sees?42% of startups fail due to lack of market need—not because there's no need, but because no one knows the solution exists. Another 34% fail because they never figured out product-market fit. Not because the product was bad, but because they never built the visibility to test and refine with real customers.
Whatever system you're avoiding—dedicate time each week to developing that skill.
The payoff is there. I promise.
None of us should be settling for mediocrity in the areas that allow us to take care of the people and things we love most.
What's your weak spot? Hit reply and let me know. I'd love to hear where you're working to level up in 2025.
