You’re Inconsistent Because You Don’t Know Your Power

A common issue I see when coaching is inconsistency.
Someone has an “aha” moment.
They identify what’s been missing.
They implement a new strategy.
Momentum builds.
And then… they stop.
I asked several participants why they do this.
Some said complacency — a quiet satisfaction that causes you to ease up once things improve.
Others said distraction — attention shifts and discipline fades.
One said, “I think the power is in the results, not the habits.”
But every answer pointed to one root issue:
They don’t understand their own potency.
Potency is the power to influence or make an impression.
When you truly understand your influence — on results, on people, on culture, on money, on systems — you stop attributing your wins to luck.
You didn’t “get lucky.”
You:
Had the hard conversation.
Organized the meetings.
Thought strategically.
Trained intentionally.
Led with purpose.
Planted seeds.
But instead of owning that, many people credit coincidence.
Now yes — there is a harvest principle. Seeds planted elsewhere often return. But that’s not what I’m addressing here.
I’m talking about the failure to recognize your own power.
Some of you may think, “I don’t want to seem egotistical.”
Knowing your power isn’t vanity.
Humility is strength under control.
Debasement is lowering the value of something.
And many of us — myself included at times — practice self-debasement.
We downplay ourselves to avoid criticism.
To avoid the “Who do they think they are?”
To avoid higher expectations.
But here’s the truth:
If you don’t show up fully as who you are, you will get less than what you’re capable of receiving.
Power brings responsibility.
It brings higher standards.
It brings accountability.
And sometimes that inner voice would rather shrink than rise.
Add trauma to the mix — environments where confidence was punished or success triggered jealousy — and shrinking becomes a habit.
But that habit must end.
Your environments will not reach their full potential if you consistently show up watered down.
When you understand the power you carry, inconsistency becomes harder to justify.
Because now it’s not just about you.
It’s about stewardship.
Until next time.
