It is that time of the week!

Hi there

So, two weeks ago, our daughter left for China. Yep, she moved straight out of home to China at 18. We were proud and sad all at the same time that years of travel had inspired such a move. There were more than a few tears throughout the day as the realisation that our firstborn child was moving, not just out of home but out of the country.

After seeing her off as she disappeared into international departures, we drove to the plane-spotting area at the end of the runway and watched her plane fly away until it was out of sight.

She is not much of a photographer, but if I ever get a decent photo from her, I will include it in one of the upcoming emails.

Travel Planning

I think we mostly take it for granted when planning travel that we can go to Booking.com for a hotel and use Google Maps to see where it is located. When planning to travel to China, yes, we have already been planning, but it is not quite so simple.

With China disliking Western websites, Booking.com is limited in its listings, and Google Maps cannot show much in China. I usually use Google Street View to check out what is around the hotels we book. We have found that Trip.com offers the best range of hotels in China.

One good thing about China is that many airlines fly from Australia to China at low prices. We can fly to China cheaper than Bali, which is only half the distance.
