"I love the calmness of queueing in Denmark" + other observations
Nov 19, 2021 3:01 pm
Hello!
In a slight change of schedule we're excited to bring you a different type of episode this week.
Every once in a while we want to put a spotlight on people who have moved to Denmark about what they've learnt from moving, but also what their home culture is like, compared to Denmark.
This week we're hearing from someone who is originally from Georgia (the country, not the US state).
Guki from Georgia
Guki came to Aarhus (northern Denmark) in 2017 as part of her study programme.
One of the things I learnt quite quickly when researching for the interview was that I didn't actually know where Georgia was...
I knew it had a border with Russia and so assumed it would be Baltic. In fact, it's on the same latitude as Rome and Barcelona, and has more of a Mediterranean vibe.
Guki had lots of things she felt differed from Denmark, which we talk about in the episode:
- How Georgians and Danes approach drinking
- Properly appreciating the sun for the first time in Denmark
- The calmness of queues in Denmark
- Danes' attitude to volunteering/ donating money to charity
- How the Danish Christmas pudding (risalamande) is everyday nursery food in Georgia (sort of)
If you'd like to compare/ contrast, then do check out the episode we did with Esther from the Netherlands from Season One.

Whilst there, a rating/ review would be much appreciated (if you can spare the time)
Have a story to tell?
If you or someone you know has an interesting perspective on adapting to life in Denmark then we'd love to chat!
