Hi ,

The holiday season is here! It's the time of the year to be grateful and give back to those who need our help the most. As part of the #empowHERfamily initiative, Women in Cloud, GiveIndia, and Indiaspora have joined forces to create a community fundraising campaign, #empowHERfamily ‘s #GivingTuesday, to support women in India who have lost their primary earning member due to COVID-19.

These past few months have been incredibly difficult for all of humankind. As we enter our second year of the pandemic, we have all been able to witness its terrible effects worldwide.

However, we've also seen acts of kindness and solidarity all over the world. We strongly believe that people show their best in the most difficult and challenging times—and that is when miracles occur.

The pandemic disproportionately impacted certain countries—and within those countries, women have been the most affected. Last year, during the lockdown between March and April, 17 million women lost their jobs worldwide—with rates as staggering as four out of ten women reporting job loss in India. Since wage inequality between men and women is 35%, Indian women already found themselves in highly vulnerable positions before the pandemic. According to the World Bank, 49 million people will be pushed into extreme poverty in India this year—which is why the time for action is now.

You can make the difference. You can help us create a miracle. For the #empowHERfamily #GivingTuesday campaign, we have set the incredible goal of raising $1 million for women in India impacted by COVID-19.

We are counting on your support to help us reach this goal!

With your contribution to this #GivingTuesday campaign, you'll be helping 2,500 women in India receive direct cash relief and bring back hope to their lives. Our goal is to collect $1 million and help each woman with a direct deposit of $400 (INR 30,000) to contribute to monthly expenses, so they can get back their lives on track.

We strongly believe that there is still so much kindness and solidarity in the world to share—especially in hard times such as these. Let's all lend a hand together and help affected women in India overcome this profound crisis. You can donate by visiting chalogive.org/empowherfamily

Cheers,

Chaitra at Women in Cloud
