Why creators are procrastinators
Nov 13, 2021 11:31 pm
Hello, fellow thinker!
Samuele here.
No one likes to put off work. But some people are chronically late on tasks and deadlines. They gain a miserable title: procrastinators.
And most creators, myself included, end up in this category very often. For most of us, fear of failure represents the main reason.
Fear of Failure and Procrastination
Creators are often procrastinators because they don't have a manager.
Having an external goal increases productivity.
Employees may second guess their boss. But they know their task.
As long as they comply with that, everything will be fine for them.
Creators have to:
- set their goals,
- be confident in their choice,
- and stick to it.
At every stage of this process, fear of failure will undermine their commitment.
So what's the solution?
How to Overcome Fear of Failure and Procrastination
I don't think you can.
They will always be at your side. You can find a way to live with them, though.
And while you define your way, I share with you my tricks:
- don't rely on memory,
- have one precise daily priority,
- get some kind of accountability.
Don't Rely on Memory.
Writing down every task gives me the first level of control over my productivity.
It gets harder to postpone indefinitely to-dos written on my Apple Reminders app.
If I do it, I do it consciously, not in an automatic procrastinatory way.
Have One Precise Daily Priority
This doesn't kill procrastination. I just shun it from one important task every day.
I don't know about you, but I don't think I will ever be productive all the time. Fear of failure and procrastination won't disappear.
But this way, they only affect minor tasks.
Get Some Kind of Accountability
The ideal solution here is to have 1 or 2 very trusted friends.
For this, I rely on Alberto most of the time.
If you have a business partner, you're all set. Otherwise, join a mastermind.
Sharing your goal with trusted people gives you more determination against your procrastination.
What about you?
Do you have a defense mechanism against procrastination?
In case I'm curious. Do let me know.
