Fetched you a Freebie: Reaper Born 🐾

Tail-wagging news: new urban fantasy freebie inside.

Hi again 🐾

Ripple here! The votes are in for the next story, the humans have spoken, and one of you apparently really wants a steamy Christmas rom-com.

One. Singular. Lonely. Christmas vote.

Boss: It was a tie between the Reaper story and the sci-fi mystery.

Ripple: Yes, but somebody voted for Christmas, and I respect their commitment to the season.

Anyway! This month, we're going with the Reaper prequel novella! It's finished, so the Boss can release it without having to do that writing thing where she stares at a screen for hours and calls it work.

Boss: That's not-

Ripple: NEXT MONTH: SCI-FI MYSTERY! With aliens! And a murder! And romance! Probably. I haven't read it yet. I have a very busy schedule. Do you have a cover reveal I can share with our readers?

Boss: Not yet.

Ripple: Not done again? Cutting it awfully close.

Boss: I'll post it in the Facebook group as soon as it's ready. But I can share the title: The Dreaming Dead.

Ripple: Oooh, I'm intrigued. A title, but no cover. Very mysterious. I suppose that's appropriate.

💀 This month's free story: Reaper Born

Death's Scythe, Prequel Novella

Death gave her a second chance. It came with a body count.

After technically dying in a crash, Kal wakes up with a craving for souls and a grim new job as a reaper. If she doesn't reap, her body starts to break down. So, naturally, her first soul is her abusive ex-boyfriend.

She likes it. Maybe a little too much.

Then there's Carter, the easygoing guy who saved her life. He's all light and goodness, and somehow he finds her darkness charming.

The problem? Every soul she takes makes the next one easier. And she's starting to wonder how much of herself she'll have left when she's done.

A little heads-up from the Boss: Reaper Born is a prequel to a novel series, but the novella has a complete story of its own. No major cliffhanger leaving you glaring at your e-reader!

More of Kal and Carter's story is coming next year. The novels won't be part of the Reading Room, which is for novella-length stories and shorter. If you want to follow Kal and Carter's adventures, join the Boss's regular newsletter or follow her on Amazon for release notifications. Or just enjoy the prequel and skip the novels altogether. Your call, humans.

🐾 A change of pace (and possibly scenery)

Boss: It's travel season. It's getting cold in Wisconsin, and I'd rather be somewhere warmer.

Ripple: Sensible. You can take your laptop somewhere that doesn't require scraping ice off the car. Astonishing technology.

The Boss is slowing down on writing for a bit, which means a slower release schedule. But don't panic! There's plenty already loaded in your e-reader. I'm certain of it.

Consider this your official permission to catch up on your reading. Finish that book you've been meaning to get back to. Maybe even read one of mine... err, the Boss's. I supervise the whole operation, so I feel a certain amount of ownership.

And when you're ready for something new, The Dreaming Dead, the sci-fi mystery, arrives next month. You can thank the majority vote for that one.

Speaking of next year…

The Boss plans to work on some sequels, and you'll get to help decide which Reading Room stories deserve another episode in their saga.

The contenders:

Yes, I know that last one is a little unfair. You'll get a chance to read The Dreaming Dead before we vote, so you can decide whether it deserves a sequel. (Don't vote yet!) The vote will come at the end of the year, in time for the Boss to plan her 2027 writing schedule. I'll also be asking how you're enjoying me and the Wet Dog Reading Room. I like to keep the humans involved. And enforce snack breaks.

Until then, go fetch your books. I'll be here, supervising the Boss, guarding the Reading Room, and making sure the treat budget doesn't suffer during this period of reduced productivity.

Priorities, humans.

Wags and wet paws,

Ripple 🐾
