They said it’s too fast. They said it’s too soon. They said it’s just a temporary thing. They even thought it was a joke. They said he’s too old. They said he’s got kids (I got a kid too). They said it’s not gonna last. They even said I had no shame. They said I shoulda fought for my marriage. They said I didn’t fight hard enough.. . They said God hates divorce. And that there’s no divorce in the Philippines. They said divorce was not an option. And the most important lie that they said about myself: that this was all my fault. Because I was the one who went astray. And for women- especially Filipino women to go astray is unthinkable. It is NOT what was EXPECTED of someone like me. But I’m glad I didn’t listen to what they said. I chose to make up my own mind. And for once in my life, I became selfish. I CHOSE ME. Because I was tired of living in a lie while keeping up this picture perfect facade. . If I would have listened, she wouldn’t have come along. I would’ve never met and known my beautiful silver lining. My life is no perfect white picket fence. But inside, I’m at peace with my decisions.
