SHINE: "Mission Brief"
Our Discipleship Director, Daniel Solis, brought the word this week as we launched a brand new series called Shine. The mission Jesus gave us is clear—go and make disciples. But too often, we hesitate because we don’t fully understand the mission. In this sermon, we break down the Great Commission in Matthew 28:18-20, showing how Jesus calls us to go, trust Him, and take authority over the places we enter. The mission isn’t just about evangelism—it’s about discipleship, baptism, and teaching. Are we taking ownership of this mission in our daily lives?

1. Do We Truly Understand the Mission?
Many times, we avoid what Jesus asks us to do because we don’t fully grasp the mission. Just like learning chess, if we don’t know the objective, we won’t engage. The Great Commission isn’t vague—it’s clear, specific, and calls us to action.
2. The Enemy’s Strategy of Doubt
Before Jesus gave the Great Commission, there was already an effort to spread doubt about His resurrection (Matthew 28:12-15). The enemy wants to confuse and twist our mission, making us hesitant to step out in faith.
3. The Steps of the Great Commission
Jesus lays out a clear process in Matthew 28:18-20:
- Recognize His Authority – Jesus has all authority in heaven and on earth.
- Go – The mission requires movement. We are not called to stay put but to go and take the gospel wherever we are.
- Trust – We don’t go alone; Jesus is with us always.
- Make Disciples – This isn’t just about conversions; it’s about walking with people as they learn to follow Jesus.
- Baptize – Baptism is a public declaration of faith and obedience.
- Teach His Commands – True discipleship includes learning and obeying God’s word.
4. Taking Authority in Our Everyday Lives
Jesus gives us authority to bring His kingdom into every area of life. We can take spiritual authority over our homes, workplaces, and schools by praying for God’s presence to move. We are called to bring healing, restore the broken, and proclaim the gospel wherever we go.
5. No More Excuses – The Mission is Now!
Jesus' call is not optional. If we truly grasped the mission, our churches would be full, our communities transformed, and our lives radically changed. Are we stepping into the mission or standing on the sidelines?
