Here is a recap of our message from this weekend...
Christmas is Coming: The Gift of Disruption
This week, we began a new series, Christmas is Coming, diving into how God’s disruptions in our lives can lead to His greater purposes. Using the story of Joseph, we explored how to trust God in the midst of life’s unexpected turns. Whether you’re feeling the weight of the holiday season or seeking peace, remember that true peace comes not from perfection but from the presence of Jesus.
This year we have limited space for Christmas at One City and we need to plan accordingly. To help us accomplish that, we are asking everyone to register to attend Christmas at One City this year. Please let us know how many people you expect to have with you and register today. It will be a MASSIVE HELP.
Weekly Bible Study List
- Matthew 1:20-21 – “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit.”
- Galatians 4:4 – “But when the set time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law.”
- John 14:27 – “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”
- Matthew 1:23 – “‘The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Emmanuel’ (which means ‘God with us’).”
3 WAYS TO RELEASE THE WEIGHT OF EXPECTATION
- Trust God When He Disrupts Your Plans- Joseph faced life-altering news when Mary became pregnant. Despite societal expectations and personal plans, Joseph trusted God’s direction and stepped into obedience. Similarly, when God disrupts our plans, it’s to move us forward into His divine purpose.
- Trust God When He Changes Your Plans- God not only disrupted Joseph’s plans but changed his entire life. Joseph had to release control and trust that God’s plan, though messy and unorthodox, was far better than his own. This challenges us to embrace God’s timing and surrender our desire for control.
- Trust God in the Pressure of Accepting His Plans - The holiday season amplifies societal pressures for perfection. Yet true peace doesn’t come from meeting expectations or creating ideal circumstances—it comes from connecting with Jesus. His presence, not worldly perfection, brings lasting peace.
From Sermon to Action
Pastor Jared encouraged us to identify the expectations we need to lay down, the things we’re holding onto that God is asking us to release, and the areas where we need to trust Him more deeply. The disruptions we face are not setbacks but destinations, moving us closer to God’s greater plans for our lives.
