Here is a recap of our message from this weekend...

May We Honor: Memorial Day

In the sermon "Battle Ready" from the "May We Honor" series, Pastor Jared discussed the roles of preparation, dedication, and honor in serving God. He highlighted the importance of acknowledging Memorial Day as a time of remembrance. The sermon drew parallels between military training and Christian service. As soldiers are prepared for battle, so too should Christians be prepared for life's challenges, maintaining clarity of mission.

Pastor Jared used Matthew 9:35-38 and Matthew 10:5-8 as the foundation for his message. He drew a correlation between the crowds Jesus served and people today in need of guidance and support. Drawing from his personal experiences, he emphasized the importance of community and spiritual leaders in times of hardship. He focused on the significance of the disciples being sent out by Jesus, pointing to it as an example of our own purpose to bring God's love and mercy to our world.

The sermon then moved into an encouragement for Christians to freely give to others, as they have freely received from God. This challenge extended beyond the walls of the church to everyday environments like neighborhoods and workplaces, with the reminder that extraordinary acts can be achieved by ordinary people. Pastor Jared pushed for a life of constant surrender to God's will and trust in his divine plan. He tied this back to the ultimate sacrifice of Jesus, invoking a sense of purpose and honor in serving God.

Finally, he ended the sermon with a prayer for those in the congregation, giving a final reminder of the importance of dedication to God’s will and the role each individual plays in living out God's purpose.

3 Things We Must Honor To Be "Battle Ready"

  1. We Must Honor the Mission - Accepting Jesus means living for Him, not just existing with him. Jesus' mission was clear: to spread God's love and truth, offering hope and healing to a broken world. We too must honor this mission, bringing the good news of Jesus to the lost and offering restoration to the broken. Our authority comes from Jesus, and it is through Him we can fulfill our mission with confidence.
  2. We Must Honor the Assignment - Jesus emphasized the urgency of the assignment: "The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few." We are placed in our communities to share Jesus' love and grace. We must recognize the mission fields around us and trust in Jesus' presence and power to guide us. Our assignments are opportunities to bring Jesus into our current spaces, empowered by the Holy Spirit.
  3. We Must Honor Our Training - Challenges in life are part of our training to become battle ready. The disciples, ordinary people, were empowered to do extraordinary things through Jesus. Our past and struggles do not disqualify us; they prepare us for our God-given assignments. Trusting in Jesus' power allows us to accomplish the impossible, and it is through Him we are strengthened.

From Sermon to Action

This Memorial Day, as we honor those who sacrificed for our freedom, we also honor Jesus' ultimate sacrifice for our eternal freedom. Our assignments may differ, but our mission is the same: to represent God's love in a broken world. Let's step into our roles, serve others, and live for Christ.
