Here is a recap of our message from this weekend...
CROWNED: THE CROWN OF SUCCESS + BUILDING UPDATE
In the kickoff to the Crowned series, Pastor Jared tackles one of the most celebrated idols in our culture: success. He then moved into a building update where he shared the future plans for One City's home.

- 1 Samuel 16:7 (NIV) – “People look at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.”
- Luke 10:20 (NIV) – “Do not rejoice that the spirits submit to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.”
- Matthew 16:26 (NIV) – “What good will it be for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul?”
- Exodus 20:3 (NIV) – “You shall have no other gods before me.” (Implied by the discussion of idols)
The Sunday Outline & Notes
Pastor Jared begins by welcoming the church into a new series called Crowned, pointing out how we often take the crown that belongs to Jesus and place it on things that were never meant to wear it—like success. With energy and authenticity, he invites us to rethink how we define a “successful” life.
Point 1: Success Is Visible, but Significance Is Spiritual
Success is easy to see—promotions, achievements, influence. But God sees what’s in the heart. Using the metaphor of curb appeal versus foundation, Pastor Jared emphasizes that while success may be celebrated by people, significance is what matters in the Kingdom.
Point 2: Success Without Surrender Is Just Self-Worship
In Luke 10:20, Jesus reminds His disciples not to tie their identity to accomplishments. Pastor Jared shares how we often say, “If I can just get this…” thinking it will fulfill us. But without surrender, success becomes self-worship. If we’re depositing our energy into the wrong account, we’ll eventually realize we’re bankrupt in the places that matter most.
Point 3: Jesus Doesn't Condemn Success, He Just Refuses to Compete With It
Success isn’t inherently bad. But it becomes a problem when it sits on the throne of our hearts. Pastor Jared illustrates how even good things, like ministry growth or financial success, can become idols if they displace Jesus. When Jesus wears the crown, everything else finds its proper place.

3 Challenges to the Church
As One City moves into this next season, Pastor Jared issued three important challenges to every member of the church:
- We Grow - Invite like never before. Everyone who has a heart for Jesus and this city should have the opportunity to be part of this movement.
- We Give - Radical generosity is required to fund this next chapter. The church has been generous—but now it's time to go even further in trusting God with our resources.
- We Serve - The mission can’t move forward without people stepping up to join serve teams. Pastor Jared encouraged everyone to start praying about where they can get involved.
