I probably shouldn't have sent that email

Last nights email was a late one. That conversation had been playing on my mind all day.
Look, I’ve been where Mark was. Burnt out, knackered, running on fumes, being snappy because some tiny thing tipped me over the edge, all whilst trying to train for an event like a half marathon. And let's be honest, it wasn't about them — it was about me being bloody exhausted and overwhelmed.
Dont get me wrong, Mark was smashing it at work, pulling in the big wins, but everywhere else? It was falling apart.
I remembered a great analogy from my NLP training.
Imagine trying to make an amazing desert for your wife's birthday. You have a picture but no instructions, no method and no experience baking. You go to the pantry and find all sorts of ingredients. You throw it all together, whack it in the oven at a random temperature for god knows how long. Whats the chances of it looking like the same cake in the picture let alone being edible.
Here's the thing, though, it’s not your fault. Society tells us to burn the candle at both ends. Be the provider. Focus on work. Ignore the fact you’re knackered because "you can deal with it later.”
But you know deep down, “later” never comes, does it?
We need to change that.
