Why I'm removing my books from Kindle Unlimited.
May 26, 2021 8:46 pm
Hello from Wales!
It's been a very busy month and I am finally getting back into the swing of things.
The most important thing to let you know is that Sky is 100% back to her old self, and although she is still on small walks, she's allowed to return to her normal routine in a week or so.
Here she is showing off her scar after ruffling the bed :)
New Facebook Group
I have an absolutely wonderful friend on the other side of the pond, Aimee, who has been telling me for far too long that I need to be more active on social media. As you know, this is not something that comes naturally to me. Thankfully, Aimee has agreed to help me, and we are hoping to build a wonderful place where we can all have fun together and talk about not just my books but all the great books we are enjoying, as well as any other cool and exciting things that come our way. Hopefully, I'll also be able to contact some other authors and see if they can share their books and giveaways with us.
It would be amazing if you could join me and Aimee. It's called Victoria DeLuis's Den of Magic (Aimee's a whiz with names - I don't know how I managed without her)
Now to talk about the title of this newsletter!!!
I don't often talk about the business side of things, but feel as though I owe you an explanation in relation to this decision. My books in Kindle Unlimited will be coming out on various dates between 14th June and the 25th July.
I've been thinking about it for a while but ultimately decided to be brave and pull them out (giving me an unbelievable amount of work!!!). The main reason for this decision is because of Amazon's requirement for a Kindle Unlimited book to be exclusive to them. I am not sure if you know but having my books in Kindle Unlimited means that I can't sell them anywhere else. Amazon won't let me, and if I tried, they would send me lots of mean emails and close my publishing account. I can review my decision every 90 days, which is why my books will be coming out on various dates. I just don't make enough money through KU to make this exclusivity worthwhile (Amazon pays KU authors per page read, this changes every month on their whim, but averages around $0.004 USD per page), and being available on other vendors will allow more people worldwide to find my work.
Benefit to my readers: I can put my eBooks anywhere: iBooks, Barnes & Noble, Google Play, Kobo, etc - plus library distributors such as Overdrive. I can even put them for sale through a linked shop through my own website. Which means, I can and fully intend to issue discount codes for any amount -- 10%, 50%, 100%, any amount -- to the people who read my newsletter (aka: You). So if you do read my books through Kindle Unlimited please still stick around as I will always make sure the people who connect with me have the best deals.
I have now kept you far too long. Would love to see you in the Facebook group (here), as always, thank you all for your continued support.
Victoria
