Quest of the Five Virtues

My "day" job is running RPGs for kids in schools and community centers. This year I've worked almost exclusively through Zoom, but there were some opportunities for fresh air...

Before the corona, I'd bring a cool new board game once per month for a little break from campaign routine. The most successful games were Cash n' Guns, Dungeon!, and simplified miniature combat. Small World, Condottiere and Citadels were also quite popular but often took too long.

This year, it was impossible, so instead I leaned heavily on the 90 minute challenge. What's a 90 minute challenge you ask? It's an adventure designed to be introduced, ran, and completed with the span of two academic hours, i.e, 90 minutes.

There's a handful of these on my blog. Most are family friendly since they originated in the classroom. A couple are not (and clearly marked as such). One is EXTREMLY not. Hell, I can't run it myself without blushing... A few were designed by the kids themselves. This one is my favorite.

One of the most fun and successful adventures this year (in the sense that it actually hit the time frame almost every time) was the Puzzle of the Five Virtues: A pulpy adventure adapted from a terrific Stargate episode that was just screaming to be made into a game. You can find it in my blog, but I'm also attaching a PDF for you convenience.

If you do run any of these, let me know how it went! I'm always eager to hear stories from these little worlds we create...

So that's that.

This week we leaned kinda heavily on role playing games stuff. Next week will be more literary.

Adios!
